I am in the process of collecting parts to build an AR-15 carbine. I will either build one similar to an Israeli special forces car-15 with M-4 barrel, or A-2 upper.......My quandry is, which upper should I go with? which is better? A-1 since it's a short range type rifle, or A-2?

If you want the real deal IDF rifle.

Get an A1 upper, M4 barrel and all the other carbine fix'ns

The IDF is now importing real M4A3's so if you want an up to date IDF weapon try hooking up your M4.

A2 upper if I was to choose from the two of them. Better sights on the A2.

Thanks for the replies.
M4, that's a bitchin' rifle.....I like that. My plan is to build one on a post ban receiver, my pre-ban being built into an American M-4. Instead of the fixed telestock, I am gonna use a Cav Arms C-1 buttstock. I think that your picture has made up my mind.....A-4 upper w/detach handle, m-4 barrel-14 1/2 inch with perm. attached KKF brake to bring her to 16 inches, C-1 stock, integral rail handguards of some sort.....Thanks again

M4,
Thanks again. I have decided that I will build the Car-15 with a lightweight 16 inch barrel and KKF brake.......making it similar to the CAR in the last picture you posted. My pre-ban Eagle is gonna get the M4 carbine treatment, since I can put evil features on it. And I will eventually build a 20 inch A2 and maybe even an A1 20 inch..........and if I keep hanging around here, I will have to file for bankruptcy with all the cool toys you guys have me wanting.

BTW, on the last pic, notice the black line at the bottom of the mags, Those are the plastic, screw attached, floorplates that the IDF uses when they rebuild the mags. Cuts the capacity to 29 rounds, but there are no longer any retaining tabs to break off and leave you w/a bunch of loose parts[:D]

Actually its a mag clamp and a damn fine one too. You can get them from DPMS for $5.
