To those of you who have shot both, how is the recoil of the M17 compared to a regular Bushmaster Carbine?  Also, what mags can be used in the M17?  Can you use USGI 20 or 30 rndrs, or will it only work with the Bushmaster M17 mag?

Any other comments on the M17 appreciated, such as shootability (shells ejecting near your face), reliability, durability, etc.

Hello toysarforus, I own a M17 and a AR15 and believe the felt recoil on the M17 is less, but it is also heavier. The M17 will accept USGI 20 & 30 rounders as well as the Canadian Thermolds (which is what I use). If your a left handed shooter, don't even bother with it. My M17 is the most reliable firearm I own and have never had a single jam or misfeed in all the years I have owned it. The custom work on it was done by KKF...

I've heard that the forward hand grip gets too hot to handle.  Is this true?

Yes under extended firing the foren will get hot. That is why it is recommended that you mount a forward grip on it.

Now aint that funny, even though Bushmaster has owned this design for many years, they haven't fixed the overheating problem.  Do you know if this is a bullpup problem or just an M17 problem?

Hmmm that is a good question. I have never fired another bull pup style so I cannot comment. It really isn't a big deal to put a rail on the bottom and put a forward grip. Another thing that really made a difference was the smith compensator. It reduced the muzzle flip greatly.
