I believe the Maryland AR-15 Shooters Site has an article on it: groups.msn.com/TheMarylandAR15ShootersSite/_homepage.msnw?pgmarket=en-us Don’t think much of the idea myself, but to each his own!!

I did this yesterday with a piece of $4 suede from a hobby store: http://www.ofoto.com/PhotoView.jsp?collid=90744949703&photoid=53665164903&page=1&UV=271103683553_21358864903&refreshkey=1057512816530 Suede isn't strong enough and I broke it just as I finished the upper portion. I'll probably replace it with something else when it breaks, either a stronger leather or para cord. It smells good and feels good on the cheek, though!

The suede looks pretty good. Did you glue it as you wrapped it around the tube? Maybe a thicker piece would work better . Looks good though.

The bottom one is my current setup. The pink one belongs to SC-Texas.

The maryland AR15 site will have the instructions I gave ages ago on how to do the wrapping along with a few pictures of the handguard of my rifle.

Whats the best way to tie the ends? Im waiting for my rifle that Pete is building so I dont have anything to look at currently to see whats the best way. Should I over wrap the start of the cord and then tie the one end? Thanks all...

I did that to my ARFX stock but only the top piece...there may be a pic of it in someones archive for the NJ AR blast3...the tied end issue I used a match and heated the end so they melt and quickly fused the first loop on the stock and did the same for the end loop looks cleaner than having a knot on the end be careful to do it right the first time or you may have to re cord the whole thing

Looks great! I'd like to try it. Could you recommend a good source to buy some "Para Cord"? What's the best size? Thanks.

Like it says on the Maryland Site, get 550 paracord. You can get it at any Army/Navy Surplus Store or online, 50yrds for about $3, in 3-4 different colors! YAY! Edit: (50yrds is more than enough for a handguard wrap) ~Santi
