I want to know as many options as possible for mounting reflex-style optics in front of the carry handle to co-waitness with the irons. I prefer something as simple, as small. and as light as possible. No RAS or SIRs please.
Thanks.

Which optic?  Some mounts are purpose built some are general.

For example if you actually plan on using a Reflex sight (BTW that is a trademark of Trijicon) then use the forward mount that Trijicon makes at its the lightest and best for that optic.

If you're looking for something for more generic reflex sights (like the Aimpoint or such) then the ARMS #39 is a very good mount.

Thanks Forest, I'm looking for a general purpose mount with a weaver rail.

If you go down in the Optics forum I know Chen Lee has photos of a very good generl purpose mount (name escapes me at the moment).

It is a foward mount with a weaver rail but the height of the rail is adjustable.  Good mount for off brand optics or the EOTech.  It doesn't look like the lightest thing due to the adjustment interface - but it sure is slick and should work with just about anything.

That mount is in the Bushmaster catalog (paper and online) though I can't remember the name either.

Most of the gooseneck mounts I have seen are pretty bulky and fairly heavy.

I don't suppose you know if an OKO dot with the protective cover installed will fit it?

I've been told the Cav Arms mount won't work unless the cover for the sight is modified.

I'd really like something I could just bolt the sight & cover on and not worrry about any mods.  The adjustability of the Bennie Cooley seems like a winner.

If using an Aimpoint, I would recomend the ARMS #39 gooseneck. It's the best their is.

Try the Samco M33 handguards.  They replace your existing handguards and have the rails on top and bottom of the handguards.  I have a set with an Eotech 511 mounted no my AR and the co-witness lines up exactly.

I would use the ARMS gooseneck if I had to mount an Aimpopint Comp M2 or other red dot with co-witness capability as a prerequisite.

The M33 handguards are fine for mounting a light or vertical grip, but not optics. The M33 handguards are probably the worst way to mount an optic in front of your carry handle.  Your optic will not hold its zero as the handguards will shift around if you put any kind of pressure on them.

The reason both sides of the foubus handguards have rails is they have a one cavity mold, the mold spits out one half of a hand guard for every cycle...it isn't there to mount optics.  If Fobus reccomends doing so, I'd say its pretty irrespsonsible on their part.
