Here's a really dumb question considering the fact that I own 4 AR's. If the the charging handle is not completely latched, will it slam into your face when you fire the weapon. I've never done it and really have no desire to experiment with my face. It seems like it should, but thought someone else might have some experience with this scenario. Thanks in advance for any input.

Have you ever taken your AR apart?  Just look at the way the charging handle interfaces with the bolt....

No.  There is no contact between the charging handle and the bolt carrier once it starts moving.  Gas would not blow it back because the gas tube goes through the charging handle.

I don't think it is possible to try it unless you remove the latch on the charging handle because if the bolt is closed enough to fire, the charging handle is all the way forward and latched.

You would probably get some gas/oil spray in your face, but the handle wouldn't "slam into your face" . The forward motion of the bolt rechambering would  secure the latch.
Most people never use the forward assist, I habitually thumb the forward assist between shooting moments. Using the forward assist would prevent your scenario.
