Got a question and hope someone can help. I have an A2 upper and a Tasco PDP5 red dot sight. The upper has Fobus M33 handguards and I like to mount the red dot on the handguards and still be able to use the iron sights. Anyone know of a spacer that will work?

Not really familiar with the Tasco red dot.  Is it a 30mm tube like the Aimpoint? if so, you should be able to use the ARMS #39A2 rail and #22M68 quick release ring and it should co-witness just fine. Even if the Tasco has a 1 inch tube, you can get 30mm ring spacers that should work. Looks to me like this would work, but someone may have a better suggestion.

You might try Bennie Cooley's Co-Witnessing mount. I have one on my A2 Upper and it works great. It is even adjustable to allow you to adjust the placement of irons within your scope's field of view. Check out www.benniecooley.com

Here is a pic of what I think you might be looking for.  Mine isn't the sturdiest of mounts.  It is a BSA 30mm red dot mounted on a 3" rail mounted only to the handguard.  I say its not all that sturdy because the handguard shifts slightly back and forth.  However even with the shift, it will repeatedly hit clay targets @ 50 yards.  This accuracy was repeated by a couple of different people so it wasn't just my lucky shot.

Slumlord is right.  You better double think about mounting optics to your handguards for accuracy reasons.  Unless you have an ARMS SIR or KAC RAS I/II, I would not recommend mounting any optics on your handguards but the choice is totally up to you.

MarineNP:

I am assuming that you are speaking about mounting an optic straight to a rail on the handguards, and not on a goosneck rail like the ARMS #39A2, or the Bennie Cooley rail.  I have the #39A2 rail with an Aimpoint M2, and it is rock solid and plenty accurate, with no play whatsoever.

Hey guys, thanks for all the imput. To answer a couple of questions, the sight is a 30 mm and I'm just kind of exploring possibilites for it right now. The handguards are good and tight but I can understand what your saying about losing accuracy when they move. Looking for something inexpensive to try on it to see if that happens. Thanks again, Paul.

Yes I was trying to say don't mount directly onto the handguards.  The ARMS #39A2 is the perfect setup when mounting optics with a fixed carry handle.

Well, I would first and foremost reccomend a RAS but, that is pricey.  So...  I would second reccomend this or something similar:http://www.bushmaster.com/shopping/scopes/arms39.asp.  If that is still too expensive then give this a thought:http://www.bushmaster.com/shopping/handguards/fbs-m33.asp.

(The bi-level carry handle mounted rails can be had from many places for varying prices, check out Brownells.  They are probably your second most sturdy option available.)
