We got a letter from Josh today, if you could call it
that, written 3/9. They are hearing about the anti-war
protests and he was upset. That's all the letter
talked about. He enclosed a poem he and his buddies
wrote. He wants us to get it out. Let people see how
they feel.

"Wish You Were Here"

For all the free people that still protest.
You're welcome. We protect you and you are protected
by the best.
Your voice is strong and loud,
but who will fight for you? No one standing in your
crowd.
We are your fathers, brothers, and sons,
wearing the boots and carrying guns.
We are the ones that leave all we own,
to make sure your future is carved in stone.
We are the ones who fight and die,
We might not be able to save the world, Well, at least
we try.
We walked the paths to where we are at
and we want no choice other than that.
so when you rally your group to complain,
take a look in the back of your brain.
In order for that flag you love to fly
wars must be fought and young men must die.
We came here to fight for the ones we hold dear.
If that's not respected, we would rather stay here.
So please stop yelling, put down your signs,
and pray for those behind enemy lines.
When the conflict is over and all is well,
be thankful that we chose to go through hell.

Excellent, and from the horse's mouth.
Reminds me of a quote I just read yesterday.
"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature, and has no chance of being free unless made or kept so by the exertions of better men than himself."-John Stuart Mill

I like the Marine one better.  He's not bitter, he knows what he's fighting for.

As a former Marine myself, I not only know exactly how they feel, but am proud to see that the Esprit de Corps of the Marines lives on as strong as ever!

I'm a soon-to-be officer in the USMC and the poem says it all.  I understand that there is freedom of speech in this country, but these protestors are not "anti-war", they are "anti-American" as far as I'm concerned.  If I were president, I would round up all these liberal pussies and try them for treason.  If convicted, don't kill them, just have them exocommunicated to another country since they think the USA is a bad place.

Semper Fi to all my fellow Marines
