When I first bought my Colt 6400C (say 2000 rounds ago) I didnt see this problem. When I pull the charging handle back, and slowly release it (say 3-4 seconds to fully close it, silently) it doesnt completely close on the round. It stops maybe 3/4 of the way closed. When I pull the handle and let go, it chambers the round instantly. How come I cant "ride" the charging handle and chamber a round silently and slowly anymore? I cleaned the bolt assembly and chamber maybe 175 rounds ago. I pulled it all out, put a layer of CLP on the exterior, and it still does this. What do you guys think? Thanks |

A little FWI, When riding the handle forward to chamber a round, use the forward assist. Think silent bolt closer. I should also point out that on most weapons, riding the charging handle back down would result in the action not closing/locking. The fact that your rifle used to chamber while riding the cocking handle back down was probably due to the recoil spring being fresh and strong. Now that there is a little softens of the spring, you will need to use the FA to achieve the silent bolt close to load a round. |
