I own a new (Post-Ban) Bushmaster M4/A3 with a pinned "Tele-Style" stock which I am thrilled with. The only problem is that the length of pull is a bit long for me. I know that mounting a telescoping stock on it would be illeagal, and I would never do this. What I am wondering is if I bought a Fiberite six position telescoping stock, and set it to the correct position for the lenght of pull I am looking for, and then pinned it so it could no longer telescope, as long as the overall length is more than the minimum allowed by law, would this be leagal?

Any help on this matter would be appreciated.

There is a "Legal" section for questions like this.

I am NOT ATF. I am not a lawyer. What I am typing is only what I have picked from surfing this site for awhile! Legal questions should be sent to the ATF. They will be more than happy to answer them for you. They would rather answer your questions than to question you when they arrest you for placing an extra "evil" feature on your postban!

It seems that the opinon of this board is that for a stock to be legal on a postban it must NOT be collapsible by any means! Even if you put a screw in there with a TORX head, it is STILL a collapsible stock, capable of being fired in a COLLAPSED position! Major baddness!!!

If you render it incapable of ever collapsing again, then it would be OK.

This is my opinon!!! Do not do this until checking with the proper authorities!!!!

Pin it, then glue it in a few areas that aren't easy to see.  This should cover the ATF legal angle, as well as making it look the way you wish.  Pinning would be your primary locking method, but glue in a few areas would help avoid anone trying to say that you could just unscrew the bolt/ pin.

I did this to mine, set the stock the lenght you want and mark it, then smear JB weld along the tube and some inside the plastic stock.  Slide them together and then pin the stock.

I promise you my stock will never collapse again.  I just bought a cheap ass used 4 pos stock off the EE and went from there. No sense in spending 100 bucks on a collapsible stock that wont ever collapse again.

I pinned and used 5 minute epoxy at the back of the buffer tube to make mine permanent. I read on this board that this is still illegal so i called the seattle BATF firearms technical office, i ask for the agent in charge and ask him if the stock was now legal for my post ban bushmaster, he stated that as long as it is a permanent fix, and there is no way to collapse the stock then it is legal. stock length isnt a issue as long as the rifle meets minimum length of 26".
i then called the Portland BATF office and ask the same questions and got the same answers. they were actually pretty cool and helpful about the issue. hope this help you out.

So it's illegal to have a collapsing stock.  Collapsed they are about 6"?  If your gun is at least 26" then a 6" fixed buttstock would be legal.  Seems a bit silly to me.

it is kinda silly, but most gun laws are, they're bitch is with the ajustability of it not the length. bushmaster and Ace both make a shorty stock that is only 7.5 inches. i have mine pinned at one click from the end, it makes the stock at 8.5 inches or so, thats where it is comfortabl for me.

Well this saved me from bassically making a duplicate topic, but I need to add to this. Can anyone just go out and buy a collapsible stock or do you have to have a FFL? Thanx.

Tanks for the info guys. It's really helpful,
and no you don't need an ffl to buy a telescoping stock. I just bought mine from Bushmaster. Thanks again
