Went to the Range yesterday with my newly purchased pre ban Sgw shorty. A few times during firing the thing dent two or three rounds downrange. Disconcerted, to say the least, I tried different mags, and the doubling continued at unexpected times. I don't mind full auto or three shot burst, but not when I don't expect it. What's the most likely source? Should I just buy a new trigger group? Thanks |

Just to add, remember that the large side of the spring goes down into the trigger slot. If you still have problems and the disconnector/hammer sear edges are fine (no chips or excessive wear), then you will need to re-time the disconnector by removing .030 off the bottom of the front foot of the disconnector (were it rests on top/front of the trigger). This will cam the disconnector forward and allows it to retain the hammer longer on the release of the trigger. Note: If the hammer/trigger sear was stoned, then you may need to remove a little more metal on the disconnector to time it correctly. What happens if the hammer was stoned is that when you let off on the trigger, the disconnector releases the hammer, but due to the shortened sear edge of the hammer; the trigger does not catch the hammer and the rifle fires. By re-timing the disconnector to release the hammer just before the trigger comes back to rest, the trigger sear can get under the hammer sear (correct timing) and retain the hammer on release from the disconnector. |

I had a friends Essential Arms do the same thing.... Come to find out the trigger pin was broken in half. Wear or the owner had less than good cleaning habits and the crud build up on the bottom may have caused it... ???? The trigger pin has a groove cut in the middle, which looks like a stress point. The broken pin would allow the disconnector to come forward, thus the short bursts.... Take a look at the pin. I ended up putting in a lower parts kit because the rest of the parts looked a bit worn... For the price, I would recommend it.... Dan Tucker UPstate NY |
| Don't just cut .030" off the disconnector, thats a lot of material. May not need that much. Visual the shelf to hook relationship as the hammer passes (finger off trigger), reduce this clearance via filing untill there is no visible gap, with out hitting the disconnector hook, then do a function check. If ok, test fire. Ideally, should not take more than 5-15 minutes tops to repair. |
