| Are they safe to shoot in a Bushmaster M4? And do I haft to wory about starting fires if I shoot them? |
| They won't hurt your Bushmaster but I wouldn't recommend shooting too many tracers without mixing it up. In the military we usually go four rounds, then one tracer with two/three tracers at the bottom if you want a visual warning that your mag is empty. I know these weapons can handle a much higher tracer ratio without damage as long as you clean it right away. |

Who told you that? tracers wont damage anything {on your weapon}and you can shoot 3 mags solid of tracers only danger to your gun would be if it was laying in dried up grass that was ignited by the tracers. |

Some know-nothing publication mentions this. I think it's called the FM23-9: Soldiers should avoid long-term use of 100-percent tracer rounds. This could cause deposits of incendiary material/chemical compounds that could cause damage to the barrel. Therefore, when tracer rounds are fired, they are mixed with ball ammunition in a ratio no greater than one-to-one with a preferred ratio of three or four ball rounds to one tracer round. |

Long term usage is way more than 3 mags. Also when a round goes thru the barrel it would push out any deposit. not giving a chance to build up. GG |

Just to offer my experience...using a chrome-lined barrel, I've had no ill-effects while expending ~2500 FMJ and ~800 tracers over a two day period. All of the tracers were loaded 100% per mag (some Beta dumps). The barrel had no ill effects when I cleaned it about 2 weeks later. I did dump a 30 rd FMJ mag through each night after the tracers just to help, but I'm not convinced it's needed. BTW, for you TX guys going to the farm, have you seen a F/A beta dump w/ 100% tracers? You just might be able to this time!!!![:d] |
| Tracer lights outside of the barrel, where you going to get build up? Do watch the dry conditions, we were shooting 30 Cal tracer from a bolt gun, and started a small fire in some debris/brush we were shooting at...had washer solvent bottles set up on fallen brush from the electric company trimming the power line across property. |
