I am wondering if the barrel on my Colt Lightweight Sporter, Model R6530, is chromed. It doesn't look like it, but I'm not completly sure. S/N: SL0271XX. Stamped on barrel: C MP 5.56 NATO 1/7. Has flash hider, no lug. Also; .223 is stamped on side of receiver. Does this weapon have the 5.56 chamber (note barrel stamps), or the .223 as stated on receiver?? Thanks! Jim |

Don't know about current models, but ALL the older Colts are marked .223 on the reciever, and 5.56 on the barrel. The .223 marking means nothing, It's chambered w/the same 5.56 reamers they used on the M16s[:D] The "C" is supposed to stand for a chromed chamber, according to "Bigger Hammer". A fully chromed bore would be stamped "CB". |

Thanks for the responces. I think shamayim is probably correct. The chamber is chromed, the bore isn't. While I think a chromed bore is preferable, the chromed chamber is probably more important. At any rate, this is a very sweet looking rifle. It has the fixed stock which I prefer, and I'm looking forward to shooting it. It is currently unfired, but I have plans to fix that soon. Just purchased 1K rounds of LC XM193...! Jim |

C hasn't meant chromed chamber in decades, you wont find CB (chamber & bore) anymore either. C = Colt (B = Bushmaster, I don't recall FN's stamping) The rest is correct. Your chamber in any event is the M16 type and its chrome lined (all Colts at a minium have the chrome lined chamber for reliability). Talk with the guys in the Colt section of the Industry forum they could tell you if your particular model had a lined bore or not. |

Quoted: C hasn't meant chromed chamber in decades, you wont find CB (chamber & bore) anymore either. C = Colt Well, yes, but when they changed over to "C" meaning Colt, they also started stamping "chrome bore" on the barrel so I guess if it doesn't say that, it ain't chromed??? |
