Can someone tell me what tool I need to remove the grip so I can replace? I am a newbie and apparently do not have the right tool.

In some cases, it's simply a hex-head and other cases its a standard screw.  The trick is locating a device which can get the hex head to the hex screw deep inside the grip.  I managed to locate an inexpensive gun tool kit made by Pachmyr at Walmart.  It has one of those screw drivers in it that have replaceable tips.  It also comes with hex head tips and it was easy from there.  Just watch out for the safety detent and spring (I think that's right) when removing the grip.

I have a set of allen wrenches that is long enough to reach up into the grip.  And yes, you do have to watch for the safety spring and detent.  Although the last time I took the grip off, the detent stayed in and the spring came out stuck in the grip.

I just did this today on my Bushmaster. You need a long 3/16" allen wrench. Any hardware store will have it.
