In December I got a 20" A3 Bushmaster.  In January I got M4rgy that I built on a Bushmaster lower.  Now I am thinking about a accurate, Varmit type rifle, finished in black of course.  Is there something wrong with me? What do they put in that Lake City ammo? Or is it the black finish? What is it that makes these things so addictive? The last gun show I picked up 2000 Rds of ammo since the gunshow was going to take 2 months to get back around to my town.  What has happened to me? Is there a cure?

how many people live at your house?

you need 1.5-2 lowers for each person.
every person get's a "tactical upper"
then you need .5 target uppers for each person.
500 rounds for each person.
6 mags for each person.

the grocery bill for a family of four is:
4 16" light weight barrel rifles with folding stocks.
2 20" target rifles.
2000 rounds of ammo (minimum)
24 magazines.

plus 4 set's of web gear.

I issue the AR's out when all my roudy friends come over.

Funny we never have any complaints from the neighbors about being too loud.[:D]

Echap,

Someone on this site once referred to it as the "black fever".  Unfortunately there is no cure.  I started a while back with one postban then added a preban, then another postban.  Yesterday I ordered an upper for one of the two stripped lowers I have laying around.  It's addicting and probably just as expensive as a coke habit (I'm guessing).  Get used to it and think of this site as your support group. And "black fever" is a two-sided disease.  You got yer battle carbines and yer battle rifles. I was able to satisfy both cravings with a Bushy A3 Shorty and a DSArms STG-58A.  Actually, all those purchases did was open up the world of accessories and ammo.  It never ends.  Just bought 80 more boxes of Q3131A at BassPro yesterday ... took all they had.

MarcW - a support group?  That's like talking to a drug dealer about helping you quit your crack habit!  Too funny.  Since I found this site I had to take a contracting job on the side to support my habit.  Too bad I don't have kids, otherwise I could steal their college fund.

echap, there is no cure, just more fixes.

Don't forget your "S-H-T-F" and also your "T-E-O-T-W-A-W-K-I" rifles. I think the rules dictate that these have to be separate pieces!

Hey, Marc.  Think of it as investing in your child's future!  These neat toys may not be around when your little guy is a big guy.

Do it for the children!

Peace brother.

How many can you carry? Seriously, in the event of SHTF or TEOTWAWKI, how many can you carry and support?

I'll have:

1 BOB, backpack, various items
1 AR
1 shotgun
1 sidearm
2 knives

If anything breaks or becomes unuseable for some reason I have to make due till I can acquire a replacement.

The funny thing about SHTF is you're going to have to move sooner of later.

Can you carry your BOB? Can you carry it uphill for several hours? Can you run with it?

I routinely get all geared up and go hiking with my BOB. It's surprising to me exactly what "I can't live without these item's" I've actually decided I can live without, after humping them around the Virginia countryside.

My 7 year old son shoots the hell out of my SP1. He hits the steel "Piggy" targets at 300 yards with open sights!

You know Echap, I've given this a lot of thought since yesterday and I think you should own as many as you can while still convincing the wife you only have one! [;D]

That said, I'm heading over the Equipment Exchange to look for my next purchase [}:D]

Funny, this is kind of how I first looked at it.  It was kind of like outfitting a combat squad.  Using five people like 308, two assaults 16", two medium range 20", one light MG or equivalent semi, 7.62, with bipod, and one large caliber long gun and one assault shotgun.  400 rounds plus 4 full mags for each.

Oh yea, I forgot, one handgun for each.

Thank God, I don't have ten people in my familly. LOL

Now like most, I just have black fever.

Move to Georgia and he can go to any state collage or university free, under the HOPE Fund we have here.

WHAT? [bounce]

Damn, that sounds like an awesome idea.  I've always told my wife that if our little guy doesn't go to college then that money is my "middle-age crazy, sports car money".  Too bad I want that car now (03 Cobra) and my little one is only 19 months [banghead]

Wow,guys - thanks!  I've been agonizing over owning one AR, a colt postban 20" HBAR Match Target Comp, and wanting at least two others, a 16" carbine and a 24" varmint, and thinking I had brain damage or something. After reading this post, I feel much more normal about myself and my craving. Now to figure out how to launder the money to aquire these non-existent new toys..........

the amount of firearms you should own is easily calculated..

use this formulae, replacing "beer" with "firearm"
(note: a "case" of firearms is roughly equal to 10 per)
(ps: this also works with ammo)

Beer math: two beers times 37 men equal 49 cases.

You not only have to have an AR for each person at home but it is a necessary item for the automobile emergency kit......check list flashlight, mre's, bottle water, shovel, flares, ar15, 3 30 round magazines, 200 rounds of ammo......anything for any excuse to get another AR.....
