I recently order a bunch of parts for an upper I'm building. I went with DPMS becuase I was impressed with their quality but when I ordered their representitive told me my order would ship in 4 - 6 weeks!!! He also informed me that if I had ordered a complete rifle from them it would take 8 - 12!
This is my first time dealing with them and was just wondering if this was normal or if I was just sitting to close to an uncapped marker when I was speaking to him...

Thanks in advance for any input..

I've ordered parts from DPMS and that was the time they always told me.  Sometimes it gets to you early, sometimes not.  Yhey are just trying to cover their bases, I guess, and giving you the maximum time it might take.

I have ordered from DPMS 6-8 times. They have always been on the long end of the time specified. I have ordered 2 complete rifles, M-4 upper, many different parts. The M-4 upper took 6 freaking long months! They were experiancing a 2-3 hundred% growth rate that year & getting anything was dang near impossible. If I would have heard of Bushmaster, or someone ealse I would have orderd somewhere ealse. I didnt have computer access, & hadnt been buying any guns in years, so I really didnt know where ealse to look. I found their add in my NRA rag. I have always been very happy with their quaility though.

How long did the parts take? Do you know if they are experiencing this growth rate still?

Thanks for your input..

The parts I ordered usally took about 3-4 weeks, & I dont know if they are experiancing another huge growth raye. Post a question in the industry site under DPMS's page, & ask them. I did see thay are looking for help.

Unforunately these kinds of waits are par for the course from most of the vendors.  Pretty much all of the vendors buy their parts from the same suppliers.  There's only so many places to get things like the raw forgings for the receivers.  You could probably count on one hand the number of places that actually make the bolt carrier for the AR15 and M16, and most of those are probably foreign.  The same thing applies to pretty much all of the small parts as well.
