Was surfing on prebanarms.com, and noticed that the pre-ban carbines (6520) are listed for $1000 more than a pre-ban rifle (like a 6551).

This is surely a dumb question...but can't you just buy a pre-ban 6551 and put a collapsable stock on it? Why are the carbines so much more expensive?

Thanks.

Everything there is way overpriced to start with, but the reason that particular carbine is $1000 more is because it is a Colt Govt Carbine, a very rare model, but they still have it overpriced.

Check out the Equipment Exchange here, for much better prices.

From a collectability standpoint the carbines are much more sexier and more diserable with fewer complete rifles that were produced. The Govt.Carbine(6520)GC series had about 18500 preban rifles that were produced. The Colt carbine CC series had about 1100 produced.
Before Colt went the P.C. route they roll- marked their guns Colt AR15.unless there is a miracle, Colt will never offer new guns marked Colt AR15 to us regular folk ever again.
Instead we have to settle for neuterd "Sporters".
Most of the Colt guns Prebanarms.com offers are Lnib or nib and have all the orriginal accesories and the cost will reflect this.
I personally like shooters not safeQueens.[uzi]

Charlie is an ok guy, his prices are just "a little high" [rolleyes], but he does have some of the nicest looking stuff around in Oklahoma.

He did sell me a new Colt M4 stock for $80.00 cash one day though. I must have caught him on a good day.
