I practice with and carry with everything I can get my hands on.  By doing this I hope to be as prepared as I can be for situations that I pray will never come to pass.

However I know that Mr. Murphy may rear his ugly law book whenever the mood may strike him.

I'm interested to hear about if your peaceful world has ever collapsed around you?

It happened to me in St. Marrten in 95 with hurricane Luis. All I had was a Browning compound bow and a bad attitude. The looters took all the food and water, the cops were every bit as vigilant and present as the LAPD during 92, and I was homeless. The day a 15 year old boy at a water point pointed an FAL bigger than he was at me and smiled was the day I wished I was home and had ready access to weapons. Train buddy. Train your ass off, but keep them near. They aren't worth a damn if they are sitting safe and sound in a safe at a relative's house 2000 miles away. We had a lot of shootings that week...They made a movie about it, The Price of Paradise.

Thank you, that story was exactly the type I was looking for.  I feel I have been lucky.  I don't have a story like that, nor do I want one.

However with as popular as Ayoob's "It happened to me" articles are, I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who gets something out of hearing stories like yours.

I spend about 12 hours a day in a high crime area.  In fact I spent my morning with a couple of my local PD and the coroner removing one of my former tenants.

I hold the law inforcement officers in my area to be some of the best people I have known.  However I don't expect that they will be standing next to me (literaly not figuratively) if something should happen to go wrong on a given day.  That is why I take steps to protect myself and my employees.  I hope those preporations are totally wasted.  But I know preporations that some have you have taken have turned out to be more that nessessary.

Thank you all for any info that you share with me

3 weeks after I started working at the Federal Reserve Bank in Downtown OKC, Mr McVeigh decided it was time to park his Ryder van a few hundred feet down the street from me at the Federal Bldg. We took damage but nothing structural.

I had a 14 year old with a switch-blade try to take my watch on the Philly subway.

I was on my way to my high-school at the time.

I still have the switch-blade.[:D]

i remember like it was yesterday....the sound late at night...was it glass breaking?...was it the sound of a door?......my eyes strained through the darkness.....there it was again....that errie feeling went down my spine.....i heard that screech! it was blood curdling.  i went to the closet ... but which gun to grab?...do i go for the sig?  the shotgun?  perhaps one of the a-bolt brownings?  no ... i should grab the ar-15....but then it hit me........grab the multi barreled pulse rifle! ............then my wife hit me because i was talking in my sleep and it woke me up....now the confusion really sets in......that was the last time i watch "aliens" and "platoon" on the same night before i go to bed!

I could probably write a book on how many times I've had to resort to a weapon to possibly save my life.  One of my fav stories though was in Houston Tx during the boom.  The crime rate was really high then. We averaged four murders a night of the worse kind, strangers doing strangers.  Deemed the murder capital of the world, almost everyone packed a gun.  I had been reading in the paper that busness men were being pulled over by thugs downtown, robbed, then shot in the head to keep them from identifying the assailant.

That same week, I had to go downtown on business.  There I was wearing a tie and the perfect mark when I pulled up to a stop light.  This what we would call today, gang banger, pulls up along side of me and points his .25 auto at me and motions for me to pull over.  All kinds of things start going through my head all at once. The first thought being maybe I should just hit the gas and try to out run him.  The more I thought about it the more pissed I got.  I opened my glove box and pulled out my full frame 9mm semiauto and calmly set it up on the dash.  I turned to the gunman and smiled my best you're in deep shit, shook my head, and said "Not today!".  The would be mugger's eyes opened wide as a 50's racial slurr movie and he broke through the light.

Funny story was out late one night with a friend, my friend pulls out in front of this guy.  The guy obviously offended, passes us and stops us in the middle of the road. He jumps out with a ball bat and slams it on my buddies hood.  My buddy calmly pulls out his .45, makes the guy strip, takes his clothes and car keys, and leaves him in the middle of the road.  I laughed so hard I could bust.

i remember my personal shtf moment like it happened this morning.

it was late on a friday, i was working on my racecar when i get a page from my wife who was down the road a bit.  i jump in the truck and go to see what she wants rather than call her back.  i show up, go inside and there she is, obviously hysterical.

then it happened, out of her mouth came "honey, im pregnant!"

thought a little humor might have a place in this thread.

Hope I dont give you guys the chills with this true and emotionally gripping story...

When I dont have my glock 23 on my person (in other words, I'm in bed), it sits safely in the bottom drawer of my night stand.
One night I was laying down, and had just gotten comfortable when I hear a loud crash come from the kitchen.
In what can be only be described as none other than the movements of a highly skilled ninja (well, I'm not THAT graceful, but still...) I glide out of bed, open the drawer, and draw my weapon. Then I freeze, trying to further distinguish the threat..... nothing... not a sound...

It turns out the trash bag I had tied around the fire extinguisher in the kitchen had gotten to heavy and ripped, causing it to fall...

While lethal force wasn't necessary to resolve this situation, I'd have been ready if it had been...
Moral of the story? Keep AT LEAST your sidearm close by..

Last winter... watching TV in my bed around 8PM. The wall behind me suddenly shudders due to something heavy hitting it hard and fast. Came from my psychopath neighbors yard behind me. Not sure what is going on, so I proceed out in the dark with .44 mag revolver and flashlight in hand. Walk down off the porch to go around back and legs slide out from beneath me on a patch of ice. Land on my right elbow hard (the one holding the .44 mag ready). THANK GOD I am practicing safe firearms handling by not having my finger on the trigger unless firing. Could have ventilated my other neighbor's house. Never did figure out what hit my house.

Incidently, was awoke at 3 AM the other morning by same psychopath neighbors discharging a full 15-round hi-cap mag. Counted 'em and they were definitely pistol shots. Called cops on them. Never did find out what was going on. Gotta get out of this neighborhood -- or at least keep the AR handy...
