I just sent a Palmetto Armory (SGW made) pre ban lower back to Olympic to get remanufactured into a new forged receiver and get this.....they talked me out of it because they said the receiver I sent them was one of few made back long ago cut from SOLID aluminum bar stock, stronger than forged. He said it was the Caddy of lowers. Hmmm.....really? Needless to say, I put the remanufacture on hold for now so I could ask you all's input on it. The reason I wanted it remanufactured into a new lower was so I could turn it into a M4 style rifle and get a better cosmetic match with a new upper, being as the lower isn't anodized. Did any other manufacturer make any lowers like this? Do I have a possible collectors lower here? I doubt it hehe...my luck is never that good. Oh, btw the fella at Olyimpic said it was the best condition lower like that he's seen. Later.

Do they have to ship to FFL on the return?

I want mine remanufactured, but right now there is no paper trail, and I dont want a serial number on a 4473.

The Oly factory is only 20 minutes from home[:d]

A resounding NO!  I had mine remanufactured and they shipped it directly to me.

There were some SGW lowers that were milled from solid blocks of aluminum.  Looks like you got lucky this time.  I think there might have been one or two other places that milled receivers also.

Is it possible that to remanufactuer the lower has to need repair. If the lower is in that good of condition maybe they are not suppposed to replace it? With so many getting these replaced they will become more of a collector item.

correct.

as long as there is no transfer of ownership, no FFL is required.

If you send YOUR firearm to a licensed mfg/importer/smith (etc..), they can send it back to you directly.

Again, no on the FFL, but your name will appear directly in the bound book of the manufacturer as having shipped them a firearm for repair and then being shipped directly to you.  No 4473 will be involved, but you will be entered into a paper trail.

Well...I just couldn't destroy it, so I'm having them just put in a new trigger assembly while its there and send it back. Even though it doesn't have a fancy finish, the strength makes up for it. If anyone else has a similar, keep sending them in for remanufacture. /chuckle

Nope.  I had a thread here a while back about refinishing my pre-ban Oly lower, and I got an email from Oly suggesting that if I wanted a new finish, I could sent it to them and they'll remanufacture it with the same markings and serial number.  The cost of remanufacture ($100) would be less than the cost of sending it off to get refinished.
