| As to my last post-I broke down my Bushy out of the box, and cleaned it with CLP and cleaned the bore, but due to my ignorance of the rifle and not wantingto hurt my new gun I did not remove the extractor pin and extractor, but I oiled it and cleaned the best I could with out removing. That being said am I OK to shoot today? |

The two parts that you want to leave on the B/C when you clean is the ejector (round pin on bolt face) and the carrier key (retained by two staked allen head screws). The extractor should be pulled to clean under the grab lip. Also, by removing it, it allows you to remove the fouling that will build up in the firing pin channel. Just push down on the extractor and push the pin over with the firing pin. The spring is the extractor is self-contained and will not shoot off. Also, it helps to use a Q-tip with some of the cotton pulled forward to make a point to clean the firing pin channel. Just insert the Q-tip all the way in from the back, then spin it to get the fouling and flakes out of the very front of the tapered firing pin channel. P.S. See, I told you that I was going to make you clean it twice. So take that sad look off your face and get to it!!!! Dano |

The military poster I read on the Maryland AR site said that using a cotton swab should be avoided as the CLP and the cotton will turn to carbon glue. They require a pipe cleaner be used for the firing pin hole and the key, especially. Correctamundo! Any cotton left in the inner workings of an AR will attract goop like a magnet. You can get extra long pipe cleaners fro the gas system or you can hold the rifle barrel down and spray brake cleaner into the gas tube. Make sure youare getting a clean stream out of the barrel before you stop and then let it sit a while to dry. It dosen't take long for it to dry. |
