I have owned 2 colts and an Oly AR over the years and recently decided to take the plunge and bought a new Bushmaster 20" HBAR w/A2 upper. The gun is very tight in fit but I have two problems/concerns. First of all is the windage adjustments. To get the impacts on center, I had to move the rear sight 6-10 (depending on the load with 55g Winchester USA FMJ being the best) clicks to the right! The other item is that the magazines (all 9 USGIs that I own plus the mag that came with the rifle) fit too tight to drop free when released. These aren't major issues but for what I paid for the rifle, shouldn't I expect that, at least, that the rear sight should sit close to mechanical zero rather than sitting off to one side? |

I recently purchased a new 20" A3 Bushmaster with detachable carry handle. As for your sight issue I haven't a clue what could be going on. The windage for my rifle is very close to the mechanical zero. As for the magazines fitting tightly, I bought a new in wrapper Colt magazine that fits the same way. It seems to be a lot better now that its been inserted and re-inserted numourous times. I also have 2 30 rd mags that were given to me and they fit perfectly and release freely when the mag release is hit. They are made by Parsons Precion Products and Adventure Line. both so Parsons KS on them. Would be curious to know what your find out about the windage problem. Good Luck |

Well, was it 6 OR 10 clicks to the right. 6 clicks @ 100 meters is 3" @ 50 meters 1 1/2" ROUGHLY. I dont see where that is all that much off. Bushmaster sights in their rifles indoors (somebody correct me if I'm wrong). And I don't think they completely zero the rifle, they just make sure the sights work in conjunction, properly. Anyway, it's not where the rifle was when it came out of the box. The question should be...is it sighted in correctly now? Were you able to get it zero'd in? If so who cares where it shot before adjusting the sights. |
| You're not the first person with this problem. I believe it's something to do with barrel indexing, but I'm a bit out of my league on this. After I've installed a barrel myself I'll probably be in a better position to talk about this. Rest assured, someone who had this problem will reply to you and let you know what they did, though if I remember, Bushmaster fixed it for free. Unless you shoot in gale force winds, you probably won't be affected by the jacked windage. It's the principle of the thing. If you buy a new car and the steering wheel is cocked 90 degrees left when you are driving straight, there's nothing technicaly wrong with the car, you'd just expect it to be fixed before getting out of the factory. |

Other members have reported problems with exsessive windage adjustments on their Bushmasters too. From what I gether by reading here is that the windage is off because the barrel was not correctly indexed at the factory. If I remember correctly Bushmaster considers 12 clicks of widage in either direction to be with in spec. I'm not saying that they will not assist you in getting the sights as close as possable to a dead on mechanical zero. I have yet to get my rifle zeroed in. When I went to the range it was very windy out so we just decided to plink around. However if I have to adjust more than 12 clicks in either direction for windage I will send my rifle to them to be fixed. I have yet to read a negative comment or story about Bushmaster not respecting or honoring their warranty. If the amount of windage adjustment concerns you. You should bring it to the attention of Bushmaster, they have been praised countless times for their excellent customer service. p.s. If you go to the Bushmster forum in the Industry section and set the board to display topics for the last 6 months I am sure you will find a great deal of information on the subject. |
