I am new to AR's, but now I am wondering if my SP1 was a mistake.

Are there any trigger upgrades?

Will A2 lower parts work in an SP1?

Are DPMS chrome or titanium parts really worth the money?

Should I just fork out the money for a pre-ban A2 and table the SP1?

Thanks

Not unless you paid more than $1300

Are there any trigger upgrades?

Yes any of the trigger options should work it's only on the later politically correct guns that trigger upgrades become an issue.

All upper/lower parts will work in a SP-1 you will need the offset pin adapter to change to another upper, also if you ever decide to upgrade to full auto that SP-1 is ready to take drop in auto sear or lightning link and the only one who will be hurt by this is your wallet.

Chrome parts are easier to keep visually clean, they do nothing for operation, I do not like DPMS parts

Should I just fork out the money for a pre-ban A2 and table the SP1?  Don't go with anything later that what was called a transition model Blue Lable. Later guns got sear blocked, non std. sized trigger/hammer pins and modified bolt carriers to make full auto conversion harder.  The only thing you gain on later receivers is possibly a magazine fence and re-inforced buttstock area. If you are not planning on doing a lot of jungle/bush work the mag fence will do nothing for you and if you have no intentions of using your rifle for a climbing tool or lever then not having the A2 buttstock reinforcements will do nothing for you either.

Thanks

If you've an SP-1, you should leave it stock. Looks cool how it is.

If you want goodies, get another, later, AR.  Repeat after me: Bushmaster...

Just my two cents.

Where can I pick up the offset pin adapter?  I'm looking at putting a Bushmaster upper on my SP1.

Thanks much.

Both of my SP1's are currently complete Colt M4A2 and M4A3 forgeries, with a couple minutes, my two faithful screw drivers (for removal of the offset adapter, instalation of the original two headed screw pin, A1 stock & pistol grip) and my Car stock wrench and they return back to original SP1's.

Yes you should. SP1's will be the "next big thing" once everyone has been satisfied with the fad of M4's and all the toys that one can hang on a AR rifle. After the big high tec craze is over, I think folks will be looking to buy up / collect nice, older SP1's simply for what they are.
My SP1 is over 30 years old, shot very little and I would not, under any circumstances modify it in any way. I do however, have other AR's that I play with.
If you were to put your SP1 up (make it a safe queen), and buy another, you won't be doing anything but improving your situation.
IF YOU DO THAT, you have just started a "collection" and then you will have two AR's to boot!
Just my .02 cents, which doesn't amount to much.

Man,  I gotta agree with the SP-1 boys...ain't nothing sexier than the old triangular hanguards.  I have an SP with a forward assist upper that rocks...

BE DIFFERENT, CARRY AN SP 1 !!!!!!!
