Looking to build an AR-10 .308. Can a 10-12" barrel be functional, and will a collapsing stock work?

I have no info about short barrels, but I do know that there are no commercially-available collapsable stock parts that will work.  The AR10 requires a different buffer and spring than an AR15, and there isn't a version of these that are compatible with the shorter tube length of a collapsable stock.

There were apparently a very small number of custom-made collapsable stocks made for military Knights SR-25s, but I've never heard of one for sale, and if one was, you'd probably have to pay a huge sum for it.

Armalite has mentioned that they *might* look into a carbine stock for AR10s if the AW bill is allowed to sunset in '04.

As you're trying to move a heavier bolt carrier group, I doubt the 10-12" barrel is going to do you much good. The bcg is bigger than an AR15, so the 15's collapsible stock, etc is not going to fit.
