I just read the following write-up by Forest

www.alpharubicon.com/leo/ar15sforserious.htm

Now I'm confused because J&T claims that several of the parts in their kits are FN manufactured yet Forest mentions the following in his article:

"BEWARE OF ANYONE SELLING "FN" PARTS/BARRELS/RECEIVERS - AVOID THEM LIKE THE PLAUGE. FN is prohibited from selling rifles or parts on the commercial market. FN can not legally produce AR-15s, so all their fire control parts are M16A2 (thus not legal in a typical AR-15). Any parts that are ‘truly’ FN produced were either stolen, or were factory rejects that were sold as scrap."

What gives?  I'm not trying to start a flame war or anything.  I'm just a little confused, so please don't take this the wrong way.

Thanks!

I believe they say 'FN contract' parts, which *MAY* mean parts made for FN by other companies...

Or it may be as the other guy said...

Dave_A,

Thanks for pointing that out.  I didn't realize that FN Contract was not FN specifically.  Thanks again for the clarification.  Sorry if I caused any fuss.

Drivie, I put together an AR15 with a 24" J&T kit. There are no markings on the upper, so I don't know who made it. It has a nice fit and finnish and I'm happy with the rifle, so far.

My understanding is that J&T uses parts from the *supplier* to FN.

I recently bought their tactical lightweight kit and the upper receiver is not marked, but the quality of the material and finish appears very good. Much better finish than the Oly stripped lower I built it on.

I got a J&T too. They "FN" contract recievers are from production overruns or surplus from the manufacturer, and just as good for quality. Mossberg even makes forged parts for them, and it was rumored the J&T uppers came from mossberg originally.

They are the same ones FN uses, but are extras or overruns of prod. from the contractor, one of which is mossberg. They are ecellent quality, the only difference being fn just didn't get a chance to stamp their name on it upon recieval.
