I saw a G.C. for sale today. 2pos. stock and very low sn. looked the part w/ no block and slab side. has a 7 twist though. is this correct? my gut said should say 1/9. what say the knowledgeable?

I think colt made the 1:7 twist before changing to the 1:9. My slabside sporter model is 1:7. Colt used whatever they had on hand at the time is my understanding. You might do better if you post this on the Colt, Industry form.
