Hi, I am new here so this is my first post. I am no expert on AR15's but I own a Bushmaster. It is a pre-ban with a 26" match barrel. It has a leopold scope and a vortex flash hider also. I bought it brand new about 5 years ago from a friend who was a firearms dealer at the time. The only time I have ever shot it was when we took it to an indoor 100 yard range right after I bought it. So, I have a lot to learn about my gun. I have just stored it in the case since that time as I moved across the country and lived in town and never had a place to shoot it. Recently, we moved to the country so now I can get my rifle out and learn a bit more about it. :) First question - if I wanted to buy another upper for the gun - a very short one. How short could I get a Bushmaster upper with a match barrel - pre ban - and, is it legal to do that? I would like to have the long barrelled upper and also a short one but I have no idea if that is legal or what?!? Thanks and sorry to ask any stupid questions. |

Awww, to hell with it, go here: bushmaster.com/shopping/uppers/ You have a pre-ban lower I assume, so run along and act like a kid in a candy store! |

As long as you don't sell your old (pre-ban) upper, you are free and clear. You have to have all of the pre-ban parts (whether you keep the upper in your closet or attached to the lower). Once you get rid of the old upper you no longer have a pre-ban that you ca mix and match. Thanks to Rich Stone for schooling me on that issue just a few days ago. |
No, bottom one is Post-ban. You can order uppers directly over the internet to your door. No FFL required. The lower is considered the "gun", and the upper is considered gun parts. Bushmaster uppers are all 5.56mm chambers except the 'Varmint' uppers. |
