My main uses for an AR are going to be target shooting and a "just in case" rifle.  My main question is about chrome lining.  Is it really neccessary for the pruposes I have in mind for this rifle?  I know target shooters perfer not to have chrome lining, but during periods of heavy use, a non-chrome lined barrel tends to pit and misfeed.  If the owner takes good care of a non-chrome lined barrel, would he have any reason to expect it to fail should an emergency come about where he may have to use it for extended period of time?  I know there were studies done on the M16's involved in the Vietnam War...the non-chrome lined ones didn't hold up in combat conditions.  I'm thinking more along the lines of bug-out (or in), and only engaging anyone as a last resort.  Escape/evasion would always be first choice.  Basically, do I need to shell out the extra $100 to get a chromed Bushmater rather than a regular Rock River for the uses I described?

A resounding YES for the chrome bore, IMO. Anything that protects the bore has to be a good thing, even if it costs a bit more, IMO.

I would discard anything you're read about M-16s in Viet Nam as both the ammo & guns had undergone a myriad of changes since then. It'd be like buying a truck based on reading the review on a 1964 model.  >gg<

I would also strongly recommend buying a Colt.

You don't have to spend the extra $100 on the Bushmaster, just spend an extra $35 and have RRA line the barrel for you and then you still get the lifetime warranty.  The chrome lining isn't a necessity, but it's worth $35 for how much easier it makes the barrel and chamber to clean.

Honestly, both Bushmaster and RRA are damn fine rifles and you'll be happy with either.  I sell both, and personally prefer the RRA simply because it's less expensive but just as high quality...maybe even slightly better.  I've actually been receiving Bushy rifles with scuffs and scratches lately.  It doesn't effect performance at all, but when you drop that much money on a new rifle, you expect it to look the part as well.

RRA STANDARD 2 stage trigger is incredible for a stock trigger. Knocks the nutz off of all comers.

Keep it clean, and oiled..........don't worry about it.

Before chrome came along..........the world didn't fall apart.......no comment on black powder.
