What's the biggest, baddest AR you can legally own in Canada, where's the best place to get it from, and how much?

I'm just conducting some research.

You can own any kind of AR-15 type. Barrel length can be own any size i.e. 11.5, 14.5, 16, 18 etc..... inch barrels with any kind of stock on it . You can get it in almost any configuration you want. Here a few site you can buy AR-15 from in Canada. Remember that they are restricted in canada.

If you buy anything at the Shooting Edge be ready to dish out more cash than any where else. Also, they have zero selection besides the odd used, overpriced AR and a couple of DPMS uppers. Your better off talking to the boys at P&D or Milarm in Edmonton.

Not my experience at all. I would suggest that you give The Shooting Edge a call and see for yourself. Captain Canuck's opinion not withstanding.
For example they are the only distributor of real M4 contour 14.5" barreled uppers in Canada. And their prices are the same as any other dealer's.

So how does one obtain an AR in Canada?

For your reference, I'm in California, which currently has banned all sales, imports, and manufacture of such "damned" objects.

I'd be interested to hear what the procedure is for you guys to obtain one.  All I hear from my father in law (he's in BC) is that you can hardly buy a bolt action 22LR.  It could be that he's a little behind on the laws, hence my question.

Alrighty...  Did a little legal research, and I'm clear as far as that's concerned.

Now, I'm gonna be using this mostly on the range, and I'm setting the upper cost limit at $2500 before tax, S&H, etc...  I can't find specs anywhere on these, so I'm in the dark as to what model to get, and what mods, if any, to get.  I wanna keep it as close to milspec as a civvie rifle can get, without sacrificing accuracy (obviously).

That really depends on what you want to get out of your rifle. If it is to shoot CQB stuff or long range precision rifle you will need a different configuration. Unlike what was previously posted, I have most configs in stock.

Give me a call toll free 1-866-720-4867 so we can discuss your specific needs/wants.

In Canada, you will only be using it on the range, like a handgun, it is illegal to shoot it anywhere else.....

Have fun

The baddest (opinion)
LE/export only shorty flattop, plenty of rails/mounting points, dual spectrum lights/lasers, gen 3 sight, tac vest, plenty mags (riveted to 5 rounds), bulk ammo, etc. :)

But get it quick, 'cuz the new US regulations mean that they can cut off any or all configurations, whenever.  Clinton/Gore 2004 (hypothetical) might put a kink in any deferred purchase plans.

Well, I'll be shooting both, but still a lot more long-range than CQB.

Well as the second "senior" (I'll have to leave that title to Striker) Canuck on this board I'd like to weight in.

I am both reg (PPCLI) and have a side business as a firearms business www.canadiantactical.ca (only LE and MIL sales sorry)

I think that TSE (The Shooting Edge) www.theshootingedge.com is the most professional gun store in canada.  They have an excellent selection of items not available elsewhere - and are actively promoting the shooting sports in Canada.

They recently hosted Sig Arms Academy Courses etc.

I know both the James's (James B was a Capt in the Para Bty, and JR was a M/Cpl in the Para Coy -A Coy 3VP) both professionally and personally.

I have the utmost respect for them and the products the sell.  They have both the Canadian Forces and the Canadian Public best interest in their minds.

I would recommend them wholeheartedly, before anyone else, in this country when looking for a firearm.

Anyone who tells you anything else is either; a) promoting a personal agenda  or b) intentionally attempting to sabotage TSE. C0 BOTH

Diemaco's license w/ Colt is owned by the CDN Govt' - they are allowed to sell to Ministries of Defence - and in Canada allowed (now) to sell to LE - thats it thats all.

I just purchased a new Colt LE6920 www.colt.com/colt/html/a2f10_carbine0.html with all the "evil" features for $1899 CDN + tax. I was trying to get a LE6921 but could not find one, and lucked out finding a new LE6920. It has "RESTRICTED MILITARY/GOVERNMENT LAW ENFORCEMENT/EXPORT USE ONLY" stamped on the lower. The gun was already in Canada apparently imported by R. Nicholls, so I did not have to go through that 'End User Certificate' garbage when exporting to Canada.

I am now just waiting for the CFO to fax a temp ATT to the store so I can pick it up!
