If you don't mind me asking, who did you get to thread your ranch hand? Not at all, I had Morgan from Dallas Shooting Supplies thread it 1/2x28, then make an adapter to get the threads past the mag tube to avoid cutting the mag tube down. The adapter is 1/2x28 to 5/8x24. I took the gun down to the barreled receiver dropped it off and he mailed it back to me. Really good guy to deal with. |

Might do the same with a RH. Not quite sure how many hosts I should get during the wait. One host is ordered, negotiated the second (custom from the action up - not quite ready to start ordering). The RH would make a nice third host. If you would want to send me a pm on the RH cost, I would appreciate it - am very curious. Oh, likewise curious - any plans to put functional sights on the RH? Most reviews I have seen complain about the front sight height being too low to shoot point of aim - but with the can on, pretty sure they will just be point of can anyway. ---- Just going to tag this on the original post rather than post a new one. Saw an interesting bullet for suppressed 357 on another post - 230 grain. ![]() Here is a link to the original thread http://www.ar15.com/archive/topic.html?b=6&f=20&t=357317 |

Well, I emailed Morgan at Dallas Shooting Supplies to make sure he is ok with me posting the price and stuff and he said go for it. I took the gun apart down to the barreled receiver and he charged me $50 to thread the barrel, $40 for the custom adapter, and $10 to ship it back to me ( I am only 1.5 hours away, so shipping may vary...not sure) anyway, $100 total. I am very pleased with the looks, and with him doing exactly what I wanted in regards to the extended adapter so I would not have to cut the mag tube. He has a good following on some other forums, and is an Industry Partner on AR15. It took less than two weeks and this was a custom "project" job for him. As far as sights, I have seen a member on silencertalk that had mounted a red dot in the vicinity of where the rear sight sits. I like the look, and may at some point think about removing the rear sight and trying to fabricate or have someone else fabricate a red dot mount for me, or if a burris fastfire would mount there and function that would be even better. Again, shout out to the SilencerShop for making the process of silencer ownership so easy (maybe too easy my wife and wallet say) |

Looked a bit more at the Burris. The picture is a top ejecting 94 I think, so looked at the mounting instructions for it. The adapter is top mounted rather than side mounted. The mounting holes are shallow vertical holes in the side of the frame. I do not see that mount working well on a 92 (the sides of the frame are not the high points - the locking lugs and the iirc the bolt are both higher). I see no reason an L shaped side mount would not work - I did not see one on the Burris site. Oh well, initially it looked much more viable. fwiw, my 94/36 Williams should be mailed today, need to take some measurements to see which Lyman I want to put up front. Could not find my @#@@ 38 special ammo yesterday, so went out hunting w/o getting to play with the Ranch Hand. Really need to organize my ammo fort (I know I have a bag of 38 cowboy loads somewhere...). I started the organization project before Christmas, but some of the ammo still has not made the migration. |
