So who wants to trade their signature series for a super duty?

I eventually got my weight - just a hair under 8lbs, but I still haven't heard about proper dimensions.
I mean, 18" barrel...the SF3P is 2.67" (rounding down to 2.5" because of the threading), lowers are just under 9", and the A2 buttstock is like 10-11"? So ~40" at the most tip to tail? |

Would love to see some closer pics if you get a chance. Especially if anyone has a ADK as I finally got mine figured out so probably won’t see if for another month and getting excited;)

Is it heavy? Any idea on weight? View Quote EDIT: 7lb, 14.4oz: Attached File No way of knowing if he was holding the rifle still by his fingertip on the flash hider, ever so slightly adding a bit of his own weight to the rifle. It's an 18" AR - it's going to be *rifle* weight. |

Dammit, now I can't unsee it and just took pictures under warm, bright, and daylight LED light:
Imgur Album (ADK color mismatch?) Could someone with a DRC please post a similar picture of the same part on their rifle? Also - not that I couldn't fix the issue changing to the MOE Rifle stock (which I intend to do eventually because I want the larger/easier-to-access storage compartment)...but the sling loop on the Signature's buttstock doesn't feel like it'd hold up under excess strain. It feels plastic and rigid. |

What do you think of the dog let safety? View Quote I like it. On my friend's ARs, he's gone with standard-style safety selectors and generally I've had to add extra leverage to actuate them. With the dogleg switch I can do the same thing BG did on stream and easily toggle it back and forth at will. I have not noticed an excessive amount of force needed to toggle the switch. It's easier to toggle the safety on the rifle than it is to toggle the one I have on my P320-M17 one-handed. |

What kind of QR code is this?? Sort of disappointed it cant be read.

|
Quoted: Yeah, I tried two different readers off of the Play Store and neither could read it. View Quote I inverted the code, which did scan and shot back: ~6BILL GEISSELE RIFLE MK1~ (followed by a bunch of numbers). Try inverting yours, I wonder if the first number before "Bill" is the number your rifle is? Not sure I like that, it doesn't even really look like a "QR" code. What good is a barcode denoting "rarity", if it can't be read. |

So - ignore the fact that the rear sight's on backwards, as that's been fixed... https://i.imgur.com/ns1l5lV.jpg ...does the back half of the upper look like it's DRC to anyone else while the lower and rail are clearly another color? View Quote |

So some information for you guys on the code on the rifles. It is not a QR Code, it is a Data Matrix which requires a different reader in most cases. My rifle came back as ~6Bill Geissele Rifle MK1~d029P2019~029S61/100. So I'm not sure number of 100 that makes mine but maybe someone can chime in or maybe @GACS could tell us what software we should use to read the code.

Certainly seems that way, I guess I'd like to what the d029P2019~029S stands for though.

Legit question, is "Barrel break in" a thing? Does a barrel need to be broken in before it can reach its full accuracy potential?
|
|
Also, is etching a number on the front of the hammer a normal thing with the triggers that ship with these? This one had "555" etched on it. Hadn't seen it on my other ones, but I really just use SSA-Es.

This question came up a little earlier on in the thread and I was under the impression that because Geissele says these barrels are hand lapped it should negate the need for break-in. Hand lapping is a polishing process on the bore and chamber that is supposed to smooth out any minor marks or imperfections left by tooling.

A few initial thoughts on a Signature from this afternoon, cross-posted from the GD thread - A buddy received his Signature rifle last week that was ordered on BF. It was done up in Desert Rock and I thought the color match between the components was very good (photos below). He and I both occasionally shoot PRS-style matches and are pretty comfortable behind long rifles - he had an atlas bipod on the front and we used a decent bag at the rear to shoot 100yd. He threw a 24x scope on the gun for initial break-in and to see what ammo it liked best. Tried 5 or 6 different decent quality commercial rounds from 69gr-77gr and got right into it after opening up the box. We were initially a bit disappointed with 5-shot groups that would almost always have a first round flyer 2-3" from the rest of the group, then many times we'd see 2 clusters of 2-rounds each. Just inconsistent results overall from all the rounds, after making very callable good trigger presses. We pulled a ripcord down the barrel and didn't see much fouling or feel any resistance in the barrel. Wondered if something was happening when closing the bolt with the first round and ejected round 1, 2 and 3 from a mag to take a closer look for jacket damage. Saw a typical longitudinal scar from running up the feed ramp that was about the same on every round, but also saw an odd spiral circumferential scratch on all of them that ran about 120% of the way around the bullet down by the ogive. You'll see a close up of 3 rounds below. We repeated this exercise with 2 other bullet weights (I think we tried 55, 69 and 77gr altogether) and saw the same markings. We continued to fire 5-7rd groups seeing similarly inconsistent results around 3-4moa until I decided to do a mag dump with 55gr cheap stuff out at the 200yd steel partially to 'continue break-in' and partially to let off some frustration Ran the ripcord again and shot a few more groups. Closed out the session with the two groups below that seemed to have tightened up a decent amount, and the marks around the bullets were only going about 30-40% of the way around the jacket at this point. Probably fired 150ish total rounds. Right around that 1.1-1.2moa mark seems reasonable but maybe it'll continue to tighten over time. Would be interested to hear guys' thoughts on what might be marking up these jackets, whether it's just something to be expected with these particular barrels until you shoot them in a bit, or if there's potentially something in this chamber that might need to be polished out. I thought the spiral shape of them going all the way around the bullet was pretty odd, but maybe one of you has seen it before. Other thoughts - it cycled everything we ran through it just fine, locking to the rear on empty mags every time with cheap steel and 20rd pmags. Barrel got decently hot a few times and we'd let it cool back down, but the rail was quite cool the whole time. I'm sure that'd be different in hot weather. As a lefty I really didn't like the way the safety shipped, with the lower-profile up-turned selector on the right side. I've got big hands but still had trouble reaching it with my thumb and would definitely change it up if it was mine. Certainly didn't experience the issue where it's too stiff - it switched back and forth just fine. Hoping this doesn't come off as a hit piece, just some thoughts from the very first few boxes of ammo after it arrived. Certainly looking forward to see if it continues to settle down with tighter groups and if anyone has any ideas on the odd jacketing marks. Rifle color: https://i.imgur.com/BJXXNEUh.jpg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pLjjzELkAvM Shooting at the bench: https://i.imgur.com/WasX4JTh.jpg Markings on the copper jackets after ejecting rounds: https://i.imgur.com/UZppIKBh.jpg 2 last groups: https://i.imgur.com/5VebeLfh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/8ciXt2rh.jpg View Quote The round marks are from the chamber freebore, its fairly snug to the bullet on the 223 Wylde chamber. Accuracy with factory ammo about 1 MOA. Tighter groups will come would come from handholds or finding something the particular gun likes. The muzzle device is not the "best" for accuracy but great for flash hiding and suppressors. It goes on with 30 ft-lb torque which is way tight. Bare muzzle or A2 birdcage with only loctite are what Hi Power shooters use. I didn't want those two options for this gun. BG |
|
Only just now discovering what 223 Wylde is. Now that I know it's basically just a 5.56 chamber made to still be accurate with 223 ammo, I'm wishing I had ordered a Signature Series in place of my DDC SD lol.
Oh well. I'm sure you guys will do runs on 18" 223 Wylde or 5.56 uppers in the future. |

@sagmill
Thanks for keeping up with us in this thread. I'm hoping to take my rifle out tomorrow and zero it. Two questions: 1) You said this rifle bears your name because it's the type/style of rifle you prefer. So while we're on the subject of ammo - what brand/grain do/would *you* shoot out of a rifle like this? Obviously being a 1:7, anything over 69gr would be optimal, but not everyone's going to rock match grade or custom loads. 2) When is Geissele planning on putting the sling you showed off at SHOT 2020 on sale, and if you're able to say, what will the price be? |

Quoted: That’s ADK?! I have one coming and was hoping for a more brown/green hue. The receiver set looks more DDC or what I thought the DRC would be. View Quote The anodizing is close, but slightly different between the rail, upper, lower and CH. Personally that is one of the thinks I like about ano, slightly different shades. Overall good I think this rifle was well worth the wait. Thank you Mr Geissele! |
