Changing out a barrel, I recall from initial assembly that I only used the black shim and that was sufficient.

For purposes of installing the new barrel, I assume it is ok to just re-use the same shim? Obviously no guarantee that I might not need to change it out during the installation process as per the instructions.

But basic question is, "I assume that a previously used shim is no different from one fresh out of the box, correct?"

I personally would call them and ask, but you could follow the instructions and add shims if need be.

You can re-use the shims if need be. Just make sure you use the correct combo.
