I know the original (more specifically early version) of the Shrike that my buddy has and I've shot, had the adjustable gas.  From reading the forum it appears that the current version uses a fixed system.   I'm pretty sure that I'll want a adjustable on my Shrike, so I'm wondering if Ares can quote the extra price difference?  Just kind of round numbers?    Also while I'm posting I like the railed front end and I'm wondering what that might cost?  Just trying to get whatever monies needed set aside so my better half won't know the true cost.

BTW, I'm excited about the opportunity to get my Shrike within a few months, (end of year timeframe).  AND it now comes with a chrome lined barrel.  Nice touch.

Just thought that I would throw in my 2 cents on the gas regulator. When I received my Shrike about a year ago, I was disappointed that it didn't come adjustable gas regulators. My Shrike works great with this system and have run belt after belt with no stoppages even in my short 12.5" barrel. I've heard people with the adjustable gas regulators having trouble running the short barrels. Mine runs like a top and I don't have to determine which setting to run it on. Whatever Geoff did in developing  the self adjusting gas regulated barrels really works good. Be careful what you wish for. It may not be the best option.

Well that's excellent news.  Since I don't have one to play with, I just figured the original might be better.  I'm glad  the fixed works great.

Do you have any problems running really dirty, or low powered ammo like the Russian stuff?

Not really sure there's much benefit of an adjustable gas regulator when shooting the low powered Russian / Wolf (which is not recommended). When shooting Wolf, my AAR will only cycle on it's maximum gas regulator setting.

You may benefit more by having an adjustable gas regulator when shooting mil-spec ammo whilst utilizing a suppressor.

I have not run anything but Fed xm193 so far since I had bought quite a bit over the 8 years waiting for it when it was cheaper.I have run over 3K rounds through it without cleaning it yet.

I have penciled in the 12.5 adjustable regulator in part for shooting with a suppressor, however, appears might be counter productive if the self adjusting works better on a short barrel w/o suppressor.
Is there a difference in operation between the fixed self adjusting regulator and a pre-set adjustable regulator?

Thanks

I'd be curious about this as well. Still sitting on the fence on wether to go with a gas adjustable or non adjustable 12.5" BBL. From the conversation I had with Marc @ ARES on the phone I understood that the adjustable was best suited if your going to run mags or a can.

Besides the question JTinIN asks, asked maybe another way, is one of the gas settings of the gas adjustable 12.5" BBL  identical to what the non adjustable BBL is set up with from the factory?

I ask because primarily the 12.5" BBL will be run using belts, and no can. Belt box use would probably be 50/50 of the time.

Thanks for any info!

I have the same question what is the distance from the muzzle to the gas block I have a LaFrance HFZ that is of a reflex design that extends back 3.8 inches fron the rearward end of the threading.  Also it is my assumption that with the 12" barrel the adjustable gas system would be preferable.  Is this correct?  This will be used on a FA lower.

Thank You,
