Just installed my selector. On the right side there is a small gap between selector and receiver. It is not flush. Is this ok?

Only when there is a camel toe directly above it.

Eta: I don't think I have ever owned one that is totally flush with the receiver.  But I've also never had an ambi selector.

Ok, new question. My selector works find but it does not have an audible, positive feeling click when rotated. Its kind of mushy...if that makes sense.  Is this normal sometimes? I just wonder, because my other rifle and others that I have shot are not like this. Thanks.

Spring tension can have something to do with it.  You can use the provided detent spring, cut off couple of coils and put the cut off coils in the pistol grip to boost the spring tension a little.  The click will be louder, and the selector will become slightly harder to rotate.

Your pistol grip's spring hole depth, which is related to spring tension, can be a cause as well.

Are you using the detent that came with the selector kit?  Perception varies.  If you're used to a cast selector's shallow detent groove, which produces a louder click, ours is slightly deeper.  Most will agree that the detent engagement on ours is more positive

Thanks for the reply. Yes I am using the provided equipment. I have an MOE grip and the lower is Rainer...but I believe it was manufactured by Mega. Ill play around with it. I am waiting on a Geiselle SD-C to arrive from Rainier. So I may wait till it arrives. Thanks...Ill report back.

I did a review about the BAD-ASS a while back.  I had this issue and had finally came to the conclusion that my pistol grip was either had too deep of a hole for the detent spring or the grip itself was mushy..

The BAD ASS/CASS are awesome.

Hmmm...ok, I will try another grip. The trigger system would not have to do with it would it? I have a stock trigger now. Waiting on a Geissele to be delivered.

The trigger part is held by the safety selector so it wouldn't have anything to do with the rotation of the safety selector other than blocking it from rotating (if built incorrectly).  The item your talking about has to do with the BAD center core, the detent, the spring or the pistol grip.  As Duffy mentioned, it probably has something to do with the depth of the hole in the grip.  If you like the grip you don't have to change it out, you just have to put a "filler' in the grip's hole.  I forgot what I originally used to test to see why I was getting some mushiness.  Maybe I cut a toothpick help compress the spring within the grip.

You can try to take a small peice with a length of a 1mm and throw it down the hole in the grip and reassemble.  See if it helps.  If it does, but still feels mushy, take out the 1mm piece and put in 2 mm.  Reassemble and test.
---------

That would be cool Duffy.  I've been meaning to do one on the BAD-CASS vs the BAD-ASS, but business has been way busy.

litpipe, please email me with your phone number and we can troubleshoot it.

The reason we include a detent spring is precisely for this reason.  Where the spring pressure may be low on some receiver/grip combination, a user can clip off couple of coils to use as spacers.  If boosting spring tension doesn't solve the issue, we'll be happy to send you another selector center to try, thanks.

Ryo and Duffy, thanks a lot for the help. Problem resolved. I added a small...very miniscule piece of finishing nail to the spring hole in the Magpul MOE grip and it worked. I may play around with it a little more b/c its not as crisp as I have seen on others. It is much better though, and has a positive click when changing firing mode. Thanks again. Great c/s duffy. I will spread the word among my partners.

Good to hear

The best kind of spacer is sections of the spring itself (thus it's provided with every kit), as it can be dumped out if it's too much and needs to be replaced with a shorter coil.

In experiments, I had once used a piece of ladder rail cover (don't do that ), it sucked because itself is somewhat elastic and has some give, but worst part is I can't get it out of the spring hole, so now that pistol grip is kind of ruined and running on extra spring tension all the time, unless I put in a shorter spring

Of the pistol grips we had tested, A2 grips seem to have deeper holes, while MIAD and Tangdown grips are somewhat shallower.  I can't make a blanket statement and say that's true of ALL A2, MIAD and TD grips, as there's bound to be some variations.   The depth of the pistol grip directly affects the amount of pressure exerted to the detent.

Ryo was the first one to observe it way back when, till we were able to replicate the cause / effect ourselves by experimenting with various lengths of springs, we were quite convinced a coil or two of the spring could not make that kind of difference, but it did.

Thus from Feb of 2012, a spring is included with every kit we sell.  In providing extra screws, a detent, and a spring, we had the base pretty well covered

Glad to have helped.

Duffy does good C/S.  Duffy is rumored to be a robot.
