Is the only difference between the Alpha rail and the VTAC Alpha rail the holes vs. the slots?  What are the pros/cons between the two versions?

The only major difference between the VTAC Alpha and the Alpha rail on the cooling holes.  The style of cooling holes is really preference.

I've read somewhere that the Troy rail is slightly thinner towards the muzzle in comparison to the VTAC...any other subtle differences?  Also, do you have the 13 inch weights for both brands?  Thanks.

I'm confused, I thought the VTAC was a Troy product. Is VTAC an industry-term and Troy has a version of it?

Weight differences?

The weight difference between the VTAC Alpha and the Alpha rail is minimal. It's slightly different per rail length. The average difference is .2oz. The VTAC is slightly heavier.

According to weights found in this section of the forum the 13" Alpha is 10.6oz while the 13" Alpha VTAC is 13.36oz. So a difference of about 2 ounces right?

I apologize the inconvenience. Looks like it was a typo I made. None of or Alpha or VTAC Rails weight 13.oz. The 13" VTAC is 11.36 oz. The .2oz is the average between the rails with out sights mounted in them.

The Troy looks better in my opinion...

Viking Tactics is a company.  They've had a few companies, such as Troy and JP, make rails to their specs.

The holes on the Troy version seem a whole lot more rough and grippy than the VTAC version. Depends on what you prefer and your needs are.

IIRC there are more direct attach accessories in the the after market.

VTAC is a company founded by one our nation's finest warfighters.

The VTAC flavored alpha rails are more comfortable in the hands. The Troy alphas seem a bit cheese grater-ish to me.
