I posted this in the Ar section then realized we have a Troy forum
Anywho, Iv made up my mind that i want an MFR-C FF rail but i have a few questions. Iv heard there is an older gen and a newer gen, i guess the newer rail has a screw on the bottom rail instead of a spring detent or something along those lines. Is there something wrong with the older style with the spring loaded detent? Is it something that can be drilled and tapped with a screw to 'fix' it or strengthen it? Im assuming there was a reason they went to a screw instead? Thanks! |
| there is nothing wrong with the older rail with the detent. when we started working with S&W they worked with us in a lot of ways to cut cost and install time of the rail. My back up rifle is an M4 style setup and i run a M203 from time to time. I prefer to run the older rail that way i don't loose my mounting hardware for the bottom rail |

So the lower rail can be removed without tools on the older style? So why switch to an allen screw? Does the detent make the bottom rail any less sturdy? My buddy has one that is the older style that he wants to trade so i just dont want to regret getting it rather than a newer screw model. |

The allen screw came about from Smith and Wesson and the amount of time it takes to install the rail on a production line. When they wanted the change it was easier to make the change across the board. |

Is it possible to get the spring and detent for the newer rails? I dont care for the new version that came on my carbine rail There is a change in the clamp and bottom rail so the detent and spring will not work with the screw style rails. bummer, thanks for the info |
