It appears my bolt is gouging the metal on contact. This rifle has just over 1000 rounds down it. DD just replaced the bcg about 500 rounds ago when it was in last. I tried calling and emailing but have had no luck reaching anyone.

Here is a picture. The bolt is making heavy contact when it slams shut.

Pictures of the bolt?
Why did DD replace your BCG?
Why was it sent in last?

ETA: I just looked at my upper. It does not look like yours. Something is amiss. That said, the marks encompass the rotation of the bolt lug path at 11-1 o'clock, so impact in no way could have caused ALL of the marks...just my .02

I will try and call tomorrow if I don't get a response to the email I sent early in the week. Thanks

I'm curious what is wrong with OP's weapon. Please update the thread when you find out, OP/Mr. Marler, et al? I just don't see how the bolt could be headspaced correctly (closing/chambering a round) and also marring the barrel in this way.

Regardless, OP, I have personally spoken with and dealt with Caroline in he past, and she is not only one of the most pleasant CS people I have spoken to, but she can and will get you squared away through any means necessary to make this a positive resolution for you. She, personally, is part of the reason I am a Daniel Defense customer.

I have dealt with her as well she is really nice to deal with. I can't get through to anybody though. I left a message Monday and an email. I tried calling yesterday and today and can't get anybody. It rings a couple times and then the call ends.

Just keep calling at 15 minute intervals. They obviously aren't dodging you, and this is how I typically treat a busy line. Lots of customers out there calling about availability, gas port sizes, man-in-the-moon, etc. I am sure

Just wanted to update to say that I received my shipping label and the rifle will be on its way back to get fixed. I will update when I get it back.

ETA to add.....thanks DD for a quick turnaround and great service. Your company is a pleasure to deal with.

Update:

Rifle is back home with new barrel, gas block, and bcg. I took it out tonight and fired off 200 rounds. It ran great. I just wanted to post pics of the barrel extension in comparison. There are discolorations on the barrel extension where the bolt lugs are making contact in the same place as before (between the 9 and 12 oclock positions). There is not displaced metal after 200 rounds but it seems it is still making contact. I am wondering (and hoping not) if this means I am going to be having the same problem. It cost a lot of money to fire ammo through this rifle just to determine if it is good to go. I would hate for the gouging to come back again. Thoughts on this? This is good to go now, right?

This is good and normal. What was the problem or mode of failure for your first one?

I was having jams ocassionally and when I was diagnosing it I noticed the gas key was canted. DD told me to send it in and they replaced the bcg and said the gas key was not properly aligned on the bcg. No big deal, stuff happens. The new bcg then started gouging into the extension as pictured in the first post.

So you don't think those scuff marks are anything to worry about. I looked at two others I own and they do not have it. Not saying that that means anything. It is just what I observed. I am thinking that 200 rounds would have been enough to see if the problem I was having in the first post would come back. It isn't a ton of rounds but enough to know if the gouging was gonna happen again.

12_gauge, thanks for the comparison photo.

I am really pleased with DD customer service. To top it off. DD overnighted my rifle back to me so I could have for the weekend because of my busy schedule and the fact I would not be able to receive it next week when it would be delivered. New barrel, BCG, gas block and expedited shipping, which ain't cheap. Once again blown away by DD customer service. I think I may have to invest in another DD rifle to say thanks. hahaha
