Any problems with the v7?

Happy with it?

What's the trigger like, did you replace it?

I bought a new LW V7 back in November.  Ive had several little minor gripes with it, although nothing major or catastrophic.  My stock trigger was absolutely horrible.  It felt like an employee picked up a handful of sand/dirt, dumped it in the lower receiver, and then shipped it out.  I tried putting 100 rounds through it to "break it in", although it hadn't changed at all.  Give it another 1000 rounds and maybe it will.  I ended up putting in a CMMG trigger group I had in another rifle into the DD.  That other rifle is more of a suppressor host, so it doesn't see a lot of use, nor am I concerned with total accuracy in that rifle.  The stock CMMG trigger is leaps and bounds better than the factory DD trigger.  It could very well be that I just got a bad trigger.  Maybe my parts are all at the outer end of tolerances, creating the horrible feel.  Whatever the problem, its a very poor feeling trigger.  Its something I would expect from a "lower tier" manufacturer; certainly not from a top name brand manufacturer.

I also have an issue with the stock grip replacement.  That issue is well documented in this section, and is not limited in its scope to just my rifle.  Multiple other owners have reported the same issue.

I bought and paid more for a Daniel Defense based on the notion that its a "top tier manufacturer."  In my own experience now, I wont buy another DD rifle.  I paid a premium for things that shouldn't be an issue.

These are my opinions only, and based on my one lone DD rifle.  As such, your experience may vary.

I bought a M4 V7 in 300 Blackout. My trigger was gritty too. Other than that it is a good rifle.
I have CMMGs too and bought the DD based on their superior reputation.
Still not sure if worth the extra $ I paid. So far a good rifle though.

Thanks for your honesty. I have heard that the triggers are bad.
I am torn between the Ruger 556e and the DD V7. The difference in the Ruger is about the price of a good trigger and I know theirs is bad.
I also was ready to pay a premium for a 'premium' rifle but have had cold feet for some time. I like Ruger's piston compared to the DI system. Unfortunately I have already bought a set of Magpul flip up sights for the DD. Ruger comes with Troy's (?)

The Ruger is not a bad rifle but they are nose heave and honestly not on the same level as DD.  Get the DD you wont regret it.

DD has more experience than Ruger with ARs used by police and armed forces if that is worth anything to you.
However, the V7 should include iron sights and a better grip.
A set of Magpul sights and a MOE + grip would make it perfect for quality low cost additions.

The trigger will feel gritty when you get your rifle.  Take it out and put about 100 rounds through it and that trigger will feel amazing.

Thanks for all your help. Bought the DD v7 from Gunbroker today. Checks in the mail. Hopefully I'll see it in a week.
Looking forward to it.
My Magpul sights came yesterday, scope next year

I first saw the v7 and was not sure I would like the tubular style  handguard til I got one and have really come to like it ALOT.  I thought about getting another in a LW but settled on the v5lw instead. Now I have the best of both worlds. Kept the triggers on both. I was able to get the v5lw with the new and improved  DD Flash Hider on it. It was not avail at the time I got the v7. Triggers get better with age, or break in. I get better with age. At least that is what I keep telling my wife.

Biggest issue with the V7 is the MFR rail for me.

It gets hot too easily, and I broke the picatinny rail sections , but everything else was great as I still have my factory V7 lower with stock internals.

How did you break the rail sections?

My trigger was pretty bad on my v7 also, the day I got the rifle I bought a geiselle SSA-E, which I love.

ETA:

Overall I love the gun though.  Much more than the POF P-14 that I sold to buy it.
Pretty accurate!  I think the rail system is genius.

The v7 trigger is getting better. Added JP Reduced Power Trigger Springs that dropped it to 4 1/2 pounds.
Noticed mine has a QD sling mount under the buffer tube.
Real nice addition. If you use a 2 point sling you will need to add a mount on the rail.

EDIT - Noticed that you said you only installed the Trigger Spring, not the Hammer Spring.  Still would like to know how it works for you though.  I still have both of the JP Springs  (Yellow Colored Springs) - Trigger and Hammer in a drawer and could easily install just the Trigger Spring.  Thanks!!

Have you shot it with the JP Reduced Power Springs?  It may actually fire a primer off ...  YMMV, but I installed them in an AR years ago not realizing that they were made specifically for their lightweight hammer - and while it certainly reduced the trigger pull - there wasn't enough power to ignite a primer.  Again, might work in yours though.  Let us know.  Good luck!

Hey sorry for late response, but they broke cause I moved them around a lot in order to figure out the exact setup I wanted.

DD did send me new rail sections, but then I sold the upper.

ETA: It was the mounting screws and tabs that broke not the rail section itself.

Just got my new DDM4 v7 LW today.  Awesome gun. Fit and finish are amazing...no wobble/movement in upper and lower.  Has the new stock and grip (which I really like).  No wobble in stock at all.  Trigger actually does not feel too bad.  I only dry fired on a snap cap 5-6 times so we'll see o nce I get it out to the range.  Added an Aimpoint PRO and Magpul MBUS to it.  Still pretty dang light.
