So, I went to sight in my new Daniel Defense barreled upper. I used the DD Mid length CHF LW FSP 16", new barrel. It shot very low at mechanical zero. I went to lower the front sight post and it would not budge. The detent depresses nicely but the sight would not turn. I have ordered a front sight tool to increase the efficiency of my efforts. But honestly, that thing would not move. My BCM's, Colt's, FN's, and others have never had such difficulty. [EDIT: Not a slam against DD.]

I haven't ever heard of this circumstance, irrespective of manufacturer. Also, I have never experienced it personally. Is this a known circumstance?

Is there a chance that the sight post is already turned in as far as it will go?  I had a front sight like that, the sight post was turned in all the way and still shot way low.  I had to file a little off the top of the post.

It will not move in either direction.

Consequently, I plan to attempt  to elevate the post before I lower the post. ---After the tool arrives, that is.

Actually, I expect to remove the post entirely in order to attempt diagnosis of this issue.

I have no problem with filing off the top or the bottom of the post as necessary. I am also willing to purchase a separate better fitting post.

(This will be an upper for my young sons.)

My guess is that a front sight tool will allow you to move it.  Sometimes they're tight.

The tool arrived.
It moves.
Removal of the sight was easy with the tool.
After replacing the sight going beyond mechanical zero offered a bit of resistance but it did go.

I guess they are just tight sometimes.
