I always get great customer service for RRA, however, here's a more technical question I need an answer to.  I ordered 4 barrels recently.  I had specified that all 4 needed M4 barrel extensions to match the M4 cuts on the RRA stripped lowers I had purchased.  Of the 4 barrels, only one came with an M4 barrel extension.  I called customer service and got a quick UPS label, dropped them off, and within a day or so, got a notification that new barrels were on the way.  I called customer service to clarify and better understand why the original 3 didn't have M4 barrel extensions and to double check that the new ones did.  I may have been mistaken, but it sounded like RRA "fixed" the 3 barrels I sent back by milling M4 cuts into the barrel extensions.  I'm a little confused as I didn't think that was possible.  I had always assumed that barrels and their extensions came from suppliers with either rifle or M4 cuts.  Does RRA machine M4 cuts into rifle exertions?

For the past 16 years or so, we've almost exclusively used rifle extensions and extended the ramps into the upper receivers for better transition in feeding.  In some barrels, where it is desirable to do so for whatever reason, an M4 extension is standard.  We're transitioning more barrels to the M4 extension and M4-cut upper receiver, but not all.  Once an extension is on a barrel and the gas port is drilled, we normally will not remove it and install a different extension as the likelihood of being able to align it properly is almost impossible.

Steve,

I just spoke with Brian in customer service regarding the barrels I sent back.  It sounded like you did just that.  You replaced the rifle extensions with M4 extensions and aligned it all up.  I can only image that it took some serious shop time to do all that.  I really appreciate it.  Looks like I got a set of custom barrels without even knowing it.  Thanks!

Honestly, I would have been happy with many other alternatives.  But I appreciate the effort.  RRA is a great company.

Should I check headspace?  I'm using RRA BCG and stripped uppers.

You always need to verify head space of any bolt and barrel combination.

I've 4 RRA (had a 5th), and all 5 headspace checked 1.460-1.462" - lets me minimize brass sizing so the brass will last!!

When could we expect to see some upper receivers with M4 feed ramps and barrels with M4 extensions for purchase separately? I've been wanting to build an AR15 with parts top-to-bottom made here in Illinois.

Already some in use.  I'll try to get a better answer for you on individual components.

Thanks Steve, I appreciate you taking time to answer these questions. I wont be building my RRA AR15 for a few more months, hopefully there'll be more available by then as you are transitioning into using more M4 extensions and uppers.  Although it won't be for a few months, when I place my order, can I put in the comments a request that my barrel and upper have those features?

Couldn't hurt to put it in the order comment section, or to call and talk to someone in Sales, to make sure you get what you want.
