| Has anyone seen any difference in loading or feeding problems between the inch patttern and metric mags? Also, if you order from Thermold which one to order? |
|
Thermold FAL/L1A1 mags may need modification to fit the magwell. The LAR-8 poly mag is specifically made for the LAR-8.
In the steel mags, inch and metric work equally well, but a lot depends on the actual magazine to be used...many on the markeyt currently don't fit every FAL or L1A1, let alonf other models like the LAR-8. Steve/RRA |

I just got my LAR8 a few weeks ago and brought it to the range. This same thought was happening to me as I was clearing Failure to Feed After Failure to Feed. It got a little ugly. I gave up after 60 rds. I was using a surplus FAL mag that worked great in my FAL. I also tried a DSA 30 rd mag. snce I have 10 of those I hope I can get them to work. Granted I DID NOT try the RRA supplied 308 mag. I did notice that the metal fal mags all seemed to rock back and forth a bit. No side to side, Just fore/aft. I have just got to shoot it some more and figure out what works and what doesnt. The above post is by no means me stating they have a poor product. The frequency of the jamming makes me assume it is the mags. (one mag worked great at the beginning and jammed at the end, the other fed well at the beginning and jammed at the end) I did have the bolt lock back a couple times oddly enough with ammo still left in the mags. It was a odd day at the range.

| I had no problem with the DSA Mags. and they would lock the bolt open when empty. The same with the 5 shot metal mag from RRA, good. The 2 thermold mags ffeed ok but won't lock the bolt back when empty. I have 2 mags that I haven't tried yet from another company (l1a1) but I have my doubts about them as they don't even seem to stack the rounds correctly. If they don't work, I'll post again with the name so others don't have a problem. |

Yesterday was a success!
300 rounds with NO failures. First mag was the Factory RRA mag. Used it three times perfect. Then used the 30 rd DSA mags, and had a blast. Literally. I did have one issue, And it was with the scope/mount/bullet impact. I'll start a new thread on that. I'm gonna need some help... |
