I have an RRA A4 Upper, Item AR0450X currently on order.  I asked for the standard A2 Handguard, the ss 20" 1-8 twist barrel, the Standard Handle/Latch, the A2 Flash Hider, and no carry-handle or front site.  I did request the front gas block w/sight base.  Will the top of the gas block site base be level with the picatinny rail on top of the receiver?  ( I am trying to decide on a Troy front and rear BUIS system that will work with a specific red dot scope, and need to know if the two rail systems are on the same plane.)

Thanks for any information you could provide.

No.
The gas block will be at the standard gas block height, which is lower than the receiver's railed surface.  There are a few taller gas blocks available that are receiver height, but we don't currently use/offer one.
Thanks.

Then what the heck is anyone supposed to do for a front sight?  Can I cancel my order or modify it so I can have a front sight that will align with the rear sight?

Exactly what is "standard gas block height"?  That really doesn't tell me anything.  How much lower than "standard receiver height".  Is your A4 bulit to meet "standard receiver height"?

Well Steve, I just spoke with the tech guys at your company and they confirmed that you can't put a set of Troy sights on the A4 Standard that I ordered from RRA.  They said the only BUIS they know of that will fit your front gas block and rA4 receiver rail are the Midwest, ARM, or the RRA sites that you sell on your website, so I guess those are the only choices I have.  Is there anyone out there in AR Land who has another answer?  Is there a Free Float Tube or something I can put on the RRA A4 Upper that has a level top rail so I could mount a set of front and rear Troy flip up BUIS?

Actually, until the recent wave of mounting the front sight on the handguard (which defeats the purpose of free-floating the  barrel as the sights are now moving with the handguard, which was floated to prevent undue influences from the handguard from effecting your barrel mounted sights and preserving point of aim/point of impact integrity), gas block height front sights were all that was available and just about every company that makes the rifles  (and most thta make sights) also carries one or more front sights for use on the gas block height (rather than receiver height) rails.

Steve, you've make a good point I hadn't considered (sight movement when mounted on a free float rail system).  Thanks.  I guess I'll just wait until my A4 Upper gets here and take it to a dealer or gun show to find BUIS that will align and give a good sight picture when mounted at different levels.

Since you were looking at Troy, try this front sight: http://store.troyind.com/Gas_Block_Front_BattleSight_p/ssig-gbf-0mbt-00.htm
It's made for gas blocks and lines up with the normal rear sight that they sell. They also have the HK style.

I'll have to look at them myself...we carry some Troy product, but not a lot of it.
