Well I have narrowed my search for my AR down to two different RRA rifles. I feel they have great customer service not only from what I have read on this site but from friends also. First is the ATH I like everything about the gun I just dont know if it is what I am looking for. The second choice would be the coyote rifle, this is because of the 20in barrel. This will be my first AR build and I have a few questions. I am going to be using this rifle for mostly varmits ie. coyotes, bobcats, and prarie dogs. I am wanting to have an accurate riflle out to around 300 to 400 yards. I like the coyote rifles 20 in barrel and 1:9 twist but could I get by with the ATH's 18in barrel with a 1:8 twist? This is going to be used with and without a bag rest. I am also looking into scopes for my purpose and cant make up my mind so I was going to ask for advice for a zoom range around 4-18 power scope.

Aggie,

I think I am one of the very few who have bought the ATH so far.  It has exactly what I wanted, which was a great barrel no longer than 18 inches, an excellent trigger, and the half quad handguard (a lot of people do not like the half quad, but I do.  To each his own).  I bought the rifle for use in 200 yards or less situations, and I have a scope geared to that, the Nikon M-223 1-4x.  Do I believe that with the right scope you can nail things at 300-500 yards?  You bet.  It is very accurate and the trigger is excellent.  It is light without being featherweight, the collapsible stock allows my kids to shoot it comfortably, and it is not too long.  And it does not look like everything else out there.

The only qualms I have about it are concerning build quality.  There are many RRA rifles out there that are as close to perfect as can reasonably be expected.  Unfortunately, mine is not one of them.  It is pretty badly scratched on the barrel, and the left wall of the lower receiver is thinner than the right wall.  I was going to send it back to RRA for them to take a look, but the dealer I was using called RRA and told them that the left wall is only .006" thinner than the right.  RRA said that this was within spec and that it would be OK.  I will go with that knowing that should the receiver have issues, RRA will take care of it.  At worst I will buy a POF receiver from ARFCOM and ditch the RRA lower.  At least I get the upper and that great trigger.

Would I buy an ATH again?  Yes, I would.

As far as a 4-18 scope, I have no recommendation from experience, just what I would do if I the scratch.  Trijicon Accupoint 5-20x.
