I am looking at getting a 6.8 rifle here in the very near future (next month or 2), I would like to know if your LAR-6.8 rifles can handle the silver state armory 6.8 combat loads. I have noticed that some 6.8 rifle makers do not guarantee this type of ammo will function in their rifles. I must assume that the ammo is to hot. Also, when will you be offering chrome lined barrels and chambers. As well as front sight/gas block options. Also, is there a wait time for the LAR-6.8 midlength carbine. |

Front sigth options are already in place. Pretty much anything you can use on a .223 will work on a 6.8 as well. So far, so good with the SSA loads. Should have the trial chromers in a few weeks. If all goes well, we;ll have production models several weeks later. They are not available for order now, so please don't call to order them. Steve/RRA |

Steve, There are a number of things that cause issues with chrome lining and the SPCII chamber reamer you are most likely using. Do you known if your barrels will meet the minimum SAAMI cross section bore area spec? On the testing of the SSA ammunition are sure your tech dept is testing the Combat version of this ammo and not the lower performance Commercial line? There is a significant difference the Commercial line is intentionally downloaded by Art (owner of SSA)to work in the tightest of barrels presently being marketed. These happen to be DPMS at this point which my pressure testing shows causes a minimum of a 5K increase in pressure over the norm referance. Can you confirm the SSA ammo you referenced in your post is the Combat line of ammunition? It's important that you specifically test the 115OTM Combat load as this is their top loading and if it works all the others will as well as it has the heaviest bullet with the largest bearing surface.and creates the highest engraving friction and subsequently pressures as well. I know your company has a very good tech team there but there are issues that have seeming been missed by almost all of those in the industry making 6.8 guns. Myself and a few others have done extensive testing of this cartridge in the AR over the span of several years. There are many things we have found from that testing along with the collection of research by many others including those from the original team. I understand your primary focus is Sales but I would be glad to share and discuss many of our findings with you if you would like as there might be somethings that may prove useful. If you would like please shoot me a PM here on AR15 or at 68forums.com. If I may, you should consider joining 68forums.com. There are 4K memebers there all 6.8 shooters and many that are looking to get their first 6.8 guns. It is by far the largest group of 6.8 enthusiast on the net. Many of our members have RRA 6.8s and we regularly recommend your companies 6.8 as the best value for a person jsut getting into the 6.8. Best bang for the buck so to speech as you have a price point no other manf. seem to want to match. I am sure they would great appreciate some sort of contact / interaction with a company rep for updates and new info from RRA via the site. I am a moderator there and would be glad to assist you with anything related to the site as well. |
A good idea indeed. I am a member and guess what, have a RRA 6.8 and am looking to buy another 6.8 |

Tim, I have been folowing the "saga of 6.8 testing" on the "other" forum, on my time, from home as I don't have time to do it at work anymore. I'm not even normally on this board from RRA anymore (see item posted in News from RRA-pinned above). We have tested combat loads previously, but as we haven't made a chrome-lined barrel yet, we haven't tested in one of them. I'm not going to assume anything about barrel tolerances/dimensions/etc...I have engineers both in-house and at the barrel maker for that. Steve/RRA |
Big kudos to you guys!! I am very satisfied with my current RRA 6.8SPC. I am actually holding off another until the new 1:11's are available for order. A 1:11 chrome would even be more spiffy. Keep up the good work! |
