I'm thinking RRA Steve may be an artistic soul and believes this sorry crowd wants 'studio' pics when all that's wanted is a couple or three shots of one of the T&E rifles - dirt, dust, grime - does not matter.

Steve,
I don't think our requests for a few photo's of the test rifles or even of the stock pile of parts for the new LAR8 rifles you must now have is such an outlandish request? The folks might even enjoy just a few pictures of the LAR8 assembly line that should be set up by now for the up-coming push out. Unless there is a problem with that in the trade-mark registration process. Throw us a few morses to keep us going until shipping starts in the near future. Steve-Indy |

Steve
Does the LAR-8 use the same charging handle design that was used on the Bushmaster BAR-10? Ie: has a detent ball that holds the handle in the upper instead of the AR-15/16 design that uses a catch. Thanks Art |
|
|
Same style charging handle with a "better" detent that won't gouge the receiver. The upper is also cut for an LAR-15 style charging handle/latch should we decide to offer it that way as well.
The LAR-8 that I had in Florida should be back in my hands mid-week. I'll make someone with a digital camera take some pictures. Anyone want to post them for me once I have them? Steve/RRA |
|
|
Yeah just email them to me
|
|
|
I can't remember if this has been gone over before, and don't really feel like dredging through 30+ pages of posts to find out... I know someone out there knows - or doesn't know - for sure about this...
What aftermarket FF Rails will - or most likely will - fit on an LAR-8?? I'm guessing this depends on the barrel nut configuration or something like that?? I know RRA will be offering their own 'quad rails' and probably a Daniel Defense version, but I'm wondering about LaRue, KAC etc... I also realize some brands may not fit, but those manufacturers may make new ones specific for the LAR-8 Help me know what will work when I finally get my hands on one of these babies so I can choose my configuration appropriately! I've got an open choice on the FIRST ones my dealer gets! Thanks! |
|
|
Maybe this will help. The only option RRA lists are the DD rails. On the DD site they list their AR-10 rails as working with the Lar-8. They don't say whether to order the DPMS or AR-10 barrel nut version, for the LAR-8. Using my limited powers of deduction this would suggest that once you find out from them which DD barrel nut version works on the LAR-8 other brands for that version would also work. Maybe. My brain is overheating I am going for a beer. |

Now that helps... a bit... I think... Well it helps more than it doesn't... I'm going for a beer too! |

If you are waiting for the one you had in Florida does that mean you dont have access to a complete LAR-8 at the factory?? |
||
Ker chow.
|
If you have rifles "in house" why do you have to wait on the one from Florida? Just show us some pics to shut everyone up and make us happy. |
||
Ker chow.
|
The in-house test guns are beat to Hell and I'm not putting up photos of them.
The T&E guns for writers etc...are out of house. The demo guns, such as the one I had in Florida, are on demos or on their way to or from. If another one makes it back first, I'll take pictures of it. The rest of the non-commercially-produced LAR-8s are not available to me, for photos or otherwise. Steve/RRA |
|
|
RRA STEVE, I sorta understand your groupings: In-house test guns, T&E guns, Demo guns. However:
What is a "non-commercially produced LAR-8" ?? 5sub |

LAR-8s which may have been made, but not for the retail market.

Gotcha, thanks steve. |

Who not just take the pic when you had the thing in your hands? |

There probably are a few, but I couldn't hold the camera and therifle at the same time.

Oh for a minute I thought it may be one of those "Vampire rifles". The ones that dont photograph or show up in mirrors... |

Come on now, give the man a break. Steve will post some pics as soon as the can. |

Seems like he's had every chance. He just hasent gotton around to doing it yet |

I think I will be hosting them next week. I'm looking forward to seeing the work.

Still waiting for some real pictures!???
The truck has probably already left the parking lot on another mission. |

I'll get to the photos as soon as I can. My repsonsibilities here go way beyond ARFCOM, and this jhas been a very busy week so far. The rifle(s) should be in my office this afternoon...if I can get to the photos today, I will. If not, it'll be in the morning. Can't do any better than that.
While we're on the subject, these are not going to be incredibly detailed photos nor are they going to be glam shots...just phots of LAR-8s. I hope to have four different models, although there's very little to distinguish them from one another or from what you've already seen, or for those with BM 308s, what you already have. I'm still at a loss to explain what the big deal over photos is, but if you want them, I'll take some. Steve/RRA |

Steve,
Is there any chance that an update thread could be made and locked so that only you can post in it please? That way those of us who Speedie |

In addition to this one, a simple announcement thread wouldn't hurt...
But I wouldn't close this one (or a similar one) to comments/questions/requests/whatever either... Forrest |

Speedie, I guess a picture of you would work.... Your comment is ridiculous and deserved the above. Hope that is not all you have. Where there are pictures, there are assembled (finished) rifles. Where there are finished rifles, there are shipments to follow. When that happens, some of us will be able to get the parts we want.... 8654 |

A small group of photos have been sent to the member who's goign to post them for me...five rifles in different configurations and comparisons of LAR-8 versus LAR-15 bolt carrier groups and lower halves. I tried some with lower markings, but they didn't show up well enough to use. Once they're up, and the three people demanding them are satiated (at least temporarily) I can answer most questions you may have about what you see, don't see, or want to know.
FYI...for those who are suspicious of everything I say, do, post, etc...about the LAR-8, all five rifles photographed are on seperate, differently serial numbered, lowers (and two of the configurations are non-cataloged but certainly buildable after the first wave of standard models is moving. The one with the quad rail is similiar to the one we showed this year at SHOT, but is a completely different rifle. This one was built as a T&E/demo rifle for a non-commercial customer). This would, of course, require you taking my word for it. Steve/RRA |

Thanks Steve but don't for a minute think that this will satisfy the shrill voiced naysayers who quail at the thought of a .308 rifle that uses plentiful and cheap magazines. They and the shills for the competition will find something to bitch about no matter how trivial.

As soon as the LAR-8 is shipping and working with cheap and plentiful FAL mags - and is available with a chrome-lined barrel so I can continue to shoot my dirty, cruddy out of spec MilSpec ammunition - I'll "quail"* enough to buy one !! 5sub *Heck, I might even 'partridge' ! |

I didn't have enough time this morning to resize the pictures. They are a large file and I need to compress it. Sorry, but I should have them up to night when I get back to the office.
They do look nice though. |

Lack of bayo lug on FSB is a bummer. Are they pinned? Why no lug?
|
|
|
Steve,
Thanks for the pictures. Now the questions: 1. The rear take down pin is different. Can you explain? What is different about it? 2. Obviously, there is a carry handle. Are those available? Remember, I have have some Bushy's and would like to have 2pc. Again, thanks for the pictures. 8654 |

|
Steve,
Ditto on the pictures. Would also like to see the other side of the reciever if at all possible? Now lets get those boys rolling off the production line, my hands are itching for one Thanks again for the photo's Steve-Indy |
|
|
The take down pin is longer than on the LAR-15 as thr receiver is somewhat beefier, but that's about it.
The detachable A2 carry handle is one of the first accessories which will be offered. There are actually dozens of accessories either already made or in the works, but we're not ccepting orders on them until the rifles are moving. Steve/RRA |

2ea. Upper Receiver (complete with bolt carrier group) 2ea. A2 Carry Handle Who knows... maybe even another rifle.... Waiting with $$$$, 8654 |

Steve, Any chance of an explanation? |
||
|
I would guess to make the rifles available for sale in as many states as possible (including CT, MA, MD & NY as well as free states). Are there even any bayonets available for .308 AR's? |

Because you need that bayonet for when the Zombies come!!!!!! You could probably buy the front sight with the bayonet from Bushmaster still. My Bushmasters are 0.75" diameter barrels... you could probably use the standard front sight, but Steve would have to vouch for that. What is the effective range for a bayonet? 8654 |
