I have a Varmint upper on the way and need to know what type of rings to get.  I'm assuming that Weaver type will work, is that correct ?  Thanks, Joe

That depends.
Generally, the slip-down-the-rail split rings aren't the best choice, especially the light weight aluminum types.  I prefer either a MS1913 speced ring or the type of "Weaver" ring that uses a side claping bar/bracket that both pushes against one side of the rail while pulling in and clamping around the other side.
Bear in mind that "Weaver" is just a style, while MS1913 is a specific dimensional call-out to standardize that particular "Weaver" base.  just because it's "Weaver" doesn't mean it will fit all MS1913 bases/plarforms, and just because it's MS1913 doesn't mean it will fit all "Weaver" rails.

I personally prefer to use the Warne extra or ultra high quick disconnect rings. They fit great, look good, and are at a reasonable price. They are all steel and are a good strong ring. I have changed out most of my scope rings to Warne and think they are some of the better products offered on the market.
