I just ordered a RRA flat top upper assembly from a recommended RRA dealer on this web site.  The price was right and the service was good.  I ordered it last friday and got it today.  No complaints there.  I am just wondering about the part though.

At first when I got it out of the package as usual with a RRA piece it appears top notch.  I then set it into the new RRA complete lower receiver I had already purchased and found that they did not fit together easily.  I researched this website and found that this was normal.  1st worry solved.

Second worry, I looked at the top of the rail on the receiver and noticed that the T-marks are very white and at the end closest to the barrel the letters RRA are stamped.  This does not look like other RRA uppers I have seen.  I thought they were supposed to have the RRA logo (letters w/crosshairs) stamped on the rail closest to the stock.  Is this something that has changed or are there different uppers.

Third worry, I compared it to my RRA Entry Tac that I purchased new direct from RRA LE sales and the upper has a different symbol on the right hand side just above the port door.  This one has a key hole symbol and my complete Entry Tac has an odd triangular mountain symbol.

I don't want to take off my dominator sight to try and compare the t-marks cause then I'll have to go and resight it in and I carry that one on duty tommorow.

I know this is a long post but I am very anal about certain things and want to know if I got the correct part.  Could someone please help?  I liked the price, the service, and the delivery time and if the part is correct I would like to give credit were credit is due.

To give a little more info, I will be completing this upper with a RRA 16'' R4 barrell, gas tube, delta ring, and bolt carrier assembly.  All parts are RRA.  Also was I supposed to specify feed ramps? arrg. The barrell nut has them in it and I did not realize if I was supposed to ask about that.

I am relatively new to the AR build thing so, Please tell me I did not get taken!

Thanks, in advance for any help.

I think you'll be fine...you apparently received exactly what you ordered.
We mark our uppers differently between those sold as receivers and those sold as upper halves and rifles.  The receivers have the markings as you described...just the RRA up front, while the rifles and upper halves are logo engraved over the charging handle.  Amongst other things, it helps us distinguish between a rifle or upper half built by us and one built from parts on a RRA lower and sold as a factory build.  We have other methods of figuring it out as well, but that's a quick and easy way to do it.
The marking on the receiver (on the flat below the rail) is a forging mark, and it will be different from time to time based on which forging was used (we purchase the raw forgings from a number of vendors to ensure reliable supply) in the machining of that particular receiver.  The kryhole is Cerro, and the "triangular mountain" is actually a cardinal's head, specifying Cardinal Forge.  There's a very detailed thread in one of the forums on forge markings and manufcaturer markings.
We use an air tool to extend the feed ramps in the receiver to match those on the extension after the barrel is installed on the upper.  Make sure that you headspace properly if you're building this all up from pieces.  Generally it will be fine, but you don't want to be that one in however many it is that doesn't headspace correctly.
Thanks for asking.

Thank you very much for the education.  I feel a little stupid not recognizing the cardinal symbol as a cardinal's head but oh well.  It sort of looked like a "triangular mountain", HaHa.  I can rest at ease now and enjoy my new toy.

By the way the upper receiver assembly is top notch and on par with every other part or product I have from RRA.  I can't wait to get it assembled completely, I am going to have a local gun smith assemble the upper half so the headspacing will be done.  He is very familiar with ARs and your products.  Thanks very much for the fast response and keep up the good work.   I think I'll stick with buying assembled RRA's from now on or at least the upper part.  I'm really leaning towards the kit rifle next.

I should mention that I bought this part and a delta ring assembly from Legal Transfers.  His service is great, fast and his prices are excellant.  I'm sorry I doubted them as I was making an uneducated assumption at the time and worried when it looked a little different than my other one.  I really just did not know what to look for.

Again, Great job.
