My local RRA dealer has a RRA AR-15 in stock with the mid length plastic hand guard and a weaver type gas block. The hand guard is not a free float model.

I am considering purchasing the rife if down the road I can change out the hand guard to the RRA aluminum free float model.  My question is do I need any other parts other than the aluminum free float tube and also is this something I can do myself? What tools will I need?

Thanks, John

John,
It was good to talk to you.
I hope one of the several options we discussed will work out.

Thanks for your help Steve. I just spoke to a local gunsmith that is willing to change it out for me. He said that the only issue he might have is if the existing barrel lock nut is red locktighted on it may be difficult to disassemble. Any thoughts?

Also can you tell me if your free float aluminum tube comes with the barrel lock nut and any other associated parts I will need?

Thanks, John

It is ready to install...but does not come with a stud for the bipod (nor drilled for it).
No loc-tite on basic bbl nuts, just torque.

Thanks again Steve. You are a great resource to have available here on AR15.com.

I've been hunting/shooting/reloading for over 20 years and just purchased my first black rifle (a RRA of course) yesterday . Can’t wait to see how she shoots.
