I bought my first AR, just like the one listed below: www.rockriverarms.com/item-detail.cfm?ID=AR1251X&storeid=1&image=06entry.gif&CFID=17445603&CFTOKEN=34780172 I have just purchased the DD handguard pictured below to replace the handguard which came with my rifle: www.danieldefense.com/?page=shop/detail&product_id=18 My question is. . .how do I get the old handguard off? Keep in mind I'm a newbie and I am still learning my way around disassembly. I'm pretty sure I have to pull down on the D ring. . .but is the A4 handguard 2-piece or 1-piece? How difficult will it be to replace the handguard? |

Putting on a DD handguard without the proper tools (upper vise block, DD bbl nut wrench, torque wrench, etc...isn't going to be very easy at all. May I suggest having us install it for you (I'm not sure exactly which rifle or DD you've got 'cause I can't work a non-live link)? You would have to remove your front sight assembly, the delta group, the bbl nut, properly retorque the new nut and sequentially reinstall all of the parts that need to go back on. If you would like us to do so, we can issue a return authorization and you could send the upper half to us for the installation. You would be responsible for the shipping bth ways and we would do the work (as long as we don't have to actually replace any parts) for a very nominal labor charge. Other gun smiths with the proper tools and experience could also do it for you. Let me know and I can hook you up with the right people. Steve/RRA |

Thanks Steve. That's what I was afraid of. Nothing is ever as easy as it seems. I will check with my local gunsmith to see if he is familiar with AR's enough to help. If not, I will be in touch with you. Just out of curiosity, how do I post a live link? I do the whole cut-n-paste thing with the links, but they do not register as live. Is there an insert that I'm missing? |
You use the link icon in the insert tags box below your message body. You can't miss it. It looks like a globe with one link of a chain next to the globe. Hope this helps. Bill |
