I am looking to put a SS barrel on my upper, does a new barrel come with the barrel extension on it? This is the first time I have ever changed a barrel so sorry if it sounds like a crazy person. Also are the barrels head spaced or does it matter with AR-15's, I have heard it doesn't matter as long as the parts are new. Obviously I want the best and safest for myself.

Thanks

Our barrels do have boththe extension and pin already installed.
You'll need to headspace to your existing bolt...anytime you change either the bolt or bbl extension, headspacing is imperative.
I would really recommend having someone help you with this project if it's a first time experience...learn from what they know to improve yur own skills, but with less jeopardy.

Thanks Steve for that very important [ but many times ignored ] information about Bolt swapping.

I can't tell you how many times I read forum memebers changing out their bolts .......... like they are changing their Socks. They treat the bolt replacement like it was a pistol grip swap.......... and make NO mention of using Head Space gauges to make sure the mating of the *new* bolt to the barrel and barrel extension is within safe spec.s.

Fooling around with 55,000 PSI near your face and fingers is not something I take lightly. If you are going to swap BC/G on your rifle ............... for a minimum of safety you should own a "Field Gauge" tool and know how to properly use it.

I know rifles are not blowing up in people's faces everyday .................. but it has happened, so don't be on the wrong end of Murphy's Law. Take the time to be safe. Buy the three head space gauges and share them with friends.

When your gun goes Bang ----- you want all the Bang to go out the front of the barrel .......... and not out the magazine well or the back of the Receiver.

Thanks again Steve

Thanks guys for the info, I was just curious about the barrel extension, and I definately was going to head space check it out, nothing like saftey. The whole headspace issue came about becuase I kept reading other threads where people were saying not to worry about it on an AR-15, but that made absolutely no sense to me as to not to do it. See a nice shiny SS 16" in the short future.
