small screw in cap covering a recessed area with a cone shaped spring

location middle of the tach carry handle

Better make sure it's a well insulated battery or it will discharge inside the all metal casing, esp with that spring constantly pushing on it.

Spare battery compartment for Aimpoint battery, and, since ANODIZED aluminum is non-conductive, as is the durably painted brass cap, we don't experience discharge when in storage.

I would argue that aluminum is certainly conductive.
Maybe you meant that ANODIZED aluminum is non-conductive.
That I would agree with.
