| Just curious why we haven't seen a 6.8 spc from RR yet? I want an 6.8 and I have had nothing but enjoyment from my RR AR. Haven't had a single problem. Is there one in the works? Other than a bolt and barrel change how hard can it be? |
From what I understand the bolt and barrel are the only thing you have to change. BUT, if you want the magazines to function properly PRI makes specific mags to the 6.8 round. Regular AR mags supposedly swell if you load them up past 5 rounds or so. I found some 6.8 ammo and loaded it into a regular GI mag and found that to be about true. You could only get 4 or 5 rounds in comfortable before there was some resistance or discomfort. I am in the process of building a 6.8 upper and wanted a 20" barrel. The best place I have found so far to get one so far is from Model 1 sales. They sell the bolt as well. There are several places selling parts and complete uppers, but for myself, they had what I was looking for. I do kind of question who makes the barrel though because they do not specify. |

Hi, We've discussed the 6.8's feasibility, and have back burnered it for several reasons, not the least of which is ammo availability. When the ammo issue is resolved, we're going to re-examine the project and sort through the other issues and go from there. Thanks. Steve/RRA |

Steve, I have been doing some reconnaissance on ammo including 6.8 and .458 SOCOM. I managed to find 4 20 round boxes in a store for around $13 a box, which I thought was not too shabby. Silver State Armory sells it online for $12 per box of 20 or 200 rounds for around $116 I think. And I think they load their own using their own brass. Now as far as .458 SOCOM goes, apparently Cor Bon is the only company that sells loaded ammunition. I contacted them through email not being able to find any info and they replied with a link to the hunting ammuntion and said that .458 SOCOM was only available for online order. I was a little stunned by the prices at first but compared to some other hunting ammunitions its not too bad I guess. Its still not going to stop me from buying a .458 upper. I think it just means I will be buying a brass catcher and some reloading equipment. |
